Written, performed, and produced entirely by Kappen, “Distant Shore” is an emotionally charged meditation on displacement, survival, and hope. Inspired by the countless stories of refugees risking everything to escape war, poverty, and violence, the song reflects on the desperation and courage of those seeking a safer future for themselves and their children.

“When I voluntarily made my own crossing to Mexico, I realized what a privilege it was to have a choice,” says Kappen. “It’s impossible to compare my experience to those forced to flee under life-threatening circumstances. I have enormous respect for their courage and determination.”

Driven by haunting mellotron textures and cinematic arrangements inspired in part by David Bowie’s iconic “Space Oddity,” “Distant Shore” blends atmospheric art-rock with deeply human storytelling. The track captures both the physical peril and emotional uncertainty of migration through evocative lyrics and Kappen’s expressive vocal performance.

“Distant Shore” follows the successful release of Kappen’s previous single, “Balance,” and further showcases the artistic depth and emotional honesty that have become hallmarks of his music.

Born in Groningen in the north of the Netherlands, Kappen built his musical foundation performing in numerous rock bands and creating productions for Dutch radio and television. Alongside his music career, he spent more than two decades working in youth care as a music therapist and later lectured in an international master’s program in music therapy. His therapeutic background helped shape him into a versatile multi-instrumentalist capable of connecting deeply through music.

Now based in Mexico City, Kappen plans to continue both his musical journey and his therapeutic work on a smaller scale while embracing a new chapter of life and creativity.

Known for her fluid lead guitar work and heartfelt songwriting, Spadaro combines the two worlds that define her life and career: music and mindfulness. In addition to performing and recording, she teaches college courses in yoga, meditation, and a class she developed called “Mindfulness in Music.” “Mystic Misfit” reflects those influences with flowing guitar riffs, introspective lyrics, and an expansive musical atmosphere that feels both grounded and transcendent.

The song gradually builds into a soaring bridge inspired by nature, meditation, and higher consciousness, as Spadaro sings about breathing deeply among the trees, feeling energy, and “tuning in” to higher vibrations. Her soulful guitar solo provides an emotional release filled with melodic improvisation and uplifting tones.

At the heart of the song is the repeated refrain: “Meet me in the middle.”

“For me, that lyric has several meanings,” Spadaro explains. “Personally, it reminds me to find my own center and stay present. But it’s also about connecting with people from a grounded place. If we listen to each other more deeply, maybe we can discover some common ground and more unity.”

“This Is Her Time” is a story about how love can turn into pain, detailing how attraction can slip into manipulation. It explores the experience of ending up trapped in relationships that devour us, presenting a narrative that is essentially a love song turned sour. Musically, the piece seamlessly blends harsh vocals with clean singing. It relies heavily on infectious hooks and melodies that are aimed to stay with the listener. At the heart of the band’s creative philosophy lies a fascination with fate, destiny, and humanity’s illusion of control. This specific track deals with love and relationships, exploring how we are the playthings of powers and urges that are beyond our control. This overarching thematic thread is captured perfectly in a quote from a poem by W. H. Auden: “We are lived by powers we pretend to understand”. Through a collaborative songwriting approach, every band member contributes their unique influences, resulting in compositions that shift atmospheres dynamically while maintaining the organic, unpolished edge of the underground metal scenes they revere.

“My songs repaint the beauty and harshness of life in an atmosphere of dreamlike melancholy,” Altea says, “which, in some way, I believe brings comfort.”

“Don’t Do Don’t Say” lives entirely inside that idea. The atmosphere oscillates between dream and reality — never settling fully into either — mirroring the way the mind so often softens or reshapes what’s difficult to look at directly. The song does not offer easy resolution. It offers company. A space where the contradictions of daily life — the beauty and the harshness, arriving together, every day, without warning — can exist without needing to be simplified.

For Altea, the emotional truth of a song is the only thing that ultimately matters.

“I just love music. I think the most important thing is truly feeling what you sing or play. That’s how it connects with the audience; otherwise, it’s just a technical exercise. It’s a strange and unexplainable magic.”

“Hollow” was written during a period of intense emotional pressure following Daniel Robinson’s major heart attack. Senses of Fear is the creative identity of New York–based musician Daniel Robinson, a prolific songwriter known for fusing heavy metal, glam-thrash, dark rock, punk rock, and cinematic emotional soundscapes. Northern Trails make warm, melody-first guitar pop that feels like it was always there — somewhere between the emotional depth of R.E.M.’s Automatic for the People, the sweeping melodic instincts of Keane, and the quiet grandeur of early Coldplay. Rooted in the 90s indie tradition, they make music for people who still believe in the power of a well-written song.

The band came together in Uppsala, Sweden in May 2022, when Christer Tinnerholm and Thomas Isberg decided it was time to spend a little less time on ultra running and a little more on pop music. Joined by Per Larsson and Ulf Eklund, they recorded Hearts Went Frozen EP and released it late 2023. Thomas Strömbom heard the single “AQ” on Swedish radio and asked if the band needed a keyboard player. Northern Trails has performed as a quintet ever since.

Since then the band has built a steady catalogue of singles and a growing reputation on the Swedish live circuit. In spring/summer 2026 they return with a run of new singles and a new EP.
