Out of Range is a bold statement of intent, combining the band’s love of classic rock, pop rock, and new wave with contemporary influences. Spanning themes of relationships, mental health, and the turbulent transition to adulthood, the album is a relatable reflection on early 20s life.

The recording process  captured the band’s growth, camaraderie, and dedication. Notable tracks include the anthemic “Wouldn’t Recommend,” introspective “Hopeless,” and nostalgic “(Me, My Dog, & Our) Time Machine.” Even their cover of “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” offers a poignant commentary on modern life.

Unique and cathartic new single, “Outcast,” is a tribute to Canadian Rock heroes. Written in the style of Rush, The Tragically Hip, Alanis Morissette, and Big Wreck, this song pays tribute to a long history of Canadian rock music. Lyrically, the song has undergone many iterations with the final version being an expression of depression due to social ostracization and the feeling of loneliness in a relationship.

“Outcast” has no silver lining, no positive message, and no inspiring ending. It is simply an expression of pain through loneliness. We hope this song brings comfort in that everyone experiences loneliness from time to time but through art, one can ease the pain of feeling outcast.

Formed in 2018, comprising members Emma Armstrong (lead vocals), Max Kaiser (lead guitar, keys, synths), Danny Moriana (bass guitar, backing vocals, synths), and Jake Biggs (drums and percussion), the band has developed a tremendous social media presence through TikTok and Instagram, where they regularly debut original music and covers of well-known classics. It was through that online presence that the band was discovered and recently endorsed by Howard Stern on his SiriusXM radio show.

Their new single “Hopeless” mimics a panic attack, conjuring anger, pressure and fear in the struggle to cope with the intensity of one’s emotions. In the midst of this, there exists a longing for support and understanding from others, and a hope that loneliness might soon end.

Though much of their success is owed to their social media engagement, it is their genre-defying original music and energetic live performances that have generated a loyal, consistent, and far reaching following.

A Short Walk to Pluto have reimagined Tears For Fears’ classic “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” in their own style while highlighting the musical elements that make the sound special; powerful female pop vocals, rich guitars, dynamic bass, and driving drums. The original song continues to demand respect for its perennially relevant lyrics that encapsulate Gen Z’s attention-seeking mindset. A Short Walk to Pluto’s arrangement is inspired by the original’s ability to propel synth-pop to the forefront of pop culture in the mid 1980’s, and they hope the same can be true of rock in the modern era.
