They are one of the bands who are recognized as slow-burning sound lean on heavy and doom roots alike. Frankly, I had the chance to have a chat with the guys before reviewing their record but I listened to their album for sure, you can find throughout my interview how I was really amazed by their output and keeping such vintage ’80s elements and putting them in a perfect modern shape. Metal music has a huge part in my life for almost 20 years now, and to be frank with you, I rarely when I enjoyed a full album of slow heavy metal style, kinda found it boring, and sometimes monotonous as well! One of the main points that I loved their debut album, because I guarantee you that 8-tracks and you’ll never get such boring by any means, and I believe behind this is several elements, but let’s summarize it to major points such as warm and powerful vocals, impressive guitar riffs, sweet and marvellous soloing, and a very tight experienced rhythm. it’s a fact, Sweden is one of the countries that doesn’t need an introduction and that back to several iconic acts including Candlemass, Bathory, Meshuggah, Opeth, Amon Amarth, Arch Enemy, Dark Tranquility, and a huge countless list of names, but let me tell you that you need to add this trio to your Swedish music library for sure.

I believe that one of the main factors behind the success of this album is the songwriting and the theme of the conceptual lyrics: “The debut self-titled album is about one archaeologist and his crew of ambitious henchmen and their descent into the cavernous realm below the crust of the earth.” – the band explained their impressive concept. Actually, I don’t exaggerate when I tell you that I loved the whole album, and I didn’t find any negative points at all. Also, I’d like to salute the mixing engineer to provide such a great output really. Now, it’s time to feel the beauty.

CAVERN DEEP STORE

The sequence of Evermore’s concept album “Court of the Tyrant” was enough really to love this record. The first thing I should salute Johan Karlsson and Andreas Viklands is their arrangement of the track indeed and this was enough to make it the best concept album that I have received so far in 2020 and 2021, respectively.

Well, first I recommend that you first should be familiar with the great novel by Joseph Campbell, The Hero with a Thousand Faces,  in which the author discusses his theory of the mythological structure of the journey of the archetypal hero found in world myths. In “Court of the Tyrant King” tried to deliver their own interpretation around the “Monomyth” or “Hero’s Journey” concept. “In the Hero’s Journey, there are several “steps” or segments that the story and/or hero progresses throughout the storytelling. Many of these steps reoccur in many different stories from all ages and cultures in human history and although the stories are not the same they often basically follow the same kind of framework or development.” – Evermore explained.

The beauty of the music is indescribable indeed! Karlsson and Viklands with Haraldsson on lead vocals were capable to present a metal masterpiece include all your beloved lines of modern techniques of melodic and syphonic metal and at the same time keeping the original heavy metal sound influenced by iconic Swedish and English acts, in which I didn’t find anywhere else literally. Although, the band lineup isn’t big still you can find tightness, harmony, and creativity.

Also, I should mention that when you check “Court of the Tyrant King” the music arrangement as well as soloing will blow your mind! Now, it’s time to feel the beauty, and don’t forget to NOT bow for the Tyrant King! Enjoy! 😉
