Produced by Thomas Hammerton, the EP’s five tracks focus on a relationship between two people and, in particular, one person’s longing to matter to someone. “There’s a desperation we feel in wanting to be important and significant to someone.” Andie has felt that herself in many relationships and instead of focusing on what she needed, she was focusing entirely on the other person – what they thought, what they felt. “It wasn’t healthy but it’s easy to lose sight of what you want when you’re crazy in love with someone.”

Some Special Light’s title track is about a struggle within oneself. It’s hard to share the person you want the most. We try not to allow jealousy, insecurity or possessiveness to take over, but sometimes it just does. The title itself represents what we all want to be in someone’s life, especially when you’re in love. They become that special light to you and, in turn, you hope that you are the same to them.

Personally, this song is the most important to me. I don’t know what it is but I’ve always felt unsure of myself, especially in relationships. I am admitting in this song the uncertainty I’ve felt in many of my relationships. The self-doubt I’ve had, and the longing to truly be loved. Loren’s rich, warm vocals are heartfelt and her approach to writing is honest, straightforward and open. Upcoming EP, Some Special Light, is a concept album that looks into our desperate need to matter to someone, and the highs and lows that come along with it.

Her Thomas Hammerton-produced single “Hearts Grow Wide,” is guitar driven and filled out with dreamy synth, melodic bass and energetic pop rock drumming. The inspiration for the track is derived from modern dating culture and the longing to connect with someone romantically. The first track off Some Special Light, “Hearts Grow Wide” follows a relationship’s highs and lows. It sets the EP’s tone, each song moving along with the story Loren wants to tell.

The song came to me while talking with friends about the world of dating and hookups. I started to think about how people meet these days. I thought about how our eyes can say so much from across the room. The simplicity of instant attraction and the longing we feel to connect with someone romantically. – Andie Loren
