Formed in 2006, The Kiss That Took A Trip is the brainchild of M.D. Trello, the sole member and admitted factotum of the project. Thirty In Twenty is designed not just as a celebratory retrospective, but as a roadmap illustrating how the project’s music has mutated over the years—evolving from highly experimental, instrumental ambient post-rock into streamlined, electronica-tingled alternative pop/rock.

The double album features the absolute best of the project’s output, alongside exciting new additions:

Rhode Island-based singer and songwriter Jenn Vix has teamed up with guitarist Vernon Reid to record a cover version of this legendary piece of music. No introductions are needed for ‘In the Air Tonight’. This iconic piece of music defined a large chunk of the music technology that would happen to subsequently define the 80s. For Jenn Vix’s version, inspired by her childhood memories of when she first heard the song, the piece takes a more hardcore road, with Reids distorted guitar playing ad-libs throughout the piece, and taking the bass’s place after the drums kick in with the unforgettable fill, which  is admirably carried over exactly as is. The vocals are different to the original’s relatively simplistic mix as Vix adds multiple harmony lines on top of the main vocal take.

Jenn Vix’s cover of this iconic 80s song is a rougher version that carries a unique fingerprint that is enough to set it apart from the rest of the large roster of cover versions already available.

Ali Nooriafsher, a Bondi, Australia-based psych-rock/electronic singer and producer, introduces us to his album’s opening single “Awaken” with his captivating voice and grungey tunes. One word to describe the beginning: magical! The vocals are gentle and mesmerising, matching with the lyrics to blow your bubble of fears, face how you’re truth-blinded, encourage mind awakening, and believe that “The world is yours if you allow.”

The skilled musician knows how to blend electro pop, indie rock, and chilly psychedelic vibes into his work. He has a distinct style that draws you in. The single encourages you to “See the light,” but it has a gloomy, dark atmosphere. The bass from intro to outro is flawless, and the energetic electronic arpeggios combined with the dynamic guitar riffs make for the ultimate musical craft!

I can’t overlook the fact that his clever lyrical choices allow everyone to relate to the song in their own way while still understanding the core message. “Bring to light the things that are hidden, let it go, all will pass.” A line like this can be applied to a variety of situations in life. The band is known throughout London’s local scene for their special flavour of combining jazz, folk, electronic, and experimental music under the rock umbrella. There’s no doubt the music, as well as vocals, will blow your mind and you will find yourself subconsciously putting the song on the repeat mode over and over again. It was produced by Harri Chambers who recently worked with some of the most talked-about new artists including Moa Moa, Oscar Lang, Pixey, Matilda Mann, Yard Act, and Bess Atwell. These guys were very keen about the sound technicalities as much as they care about their music “In our live set we use a lot of natural push and pull of tempo and we wanted to express this on the record.”  this is how the band explained their recording process live-in-the-room to capture the energy of a full band performance.

Finally, one of the main reasons to love this track was the singing style along with the lyrics itself, Leon (singer/songwriter) has a very unique vocal tone that I didn’t find any similar in 2021 so far, in addition to this he describes in his ‘Cabin Fever’ how it could be dangerous when we are overwhelmed because of some circumstances “This song was written a while ago when I had just started college. I was feeling a bit overwhelmed so I used it to spit out anything that was eating me up at the time.” – Leon explained.
