Yep, these two have teamed up again after almost a year off! The Bay Area-based Everything But The Everything are back with their latest release, A&B Side VOL II ft. (the sensational voice) Sophia Prise. This EP comes as the child of collective artistry presenting us with new and fresh-sounding alternative punk vibes; and just like what you’d expect from an authentic alt-punk group, the DIY spirit is absolutely there too!

Traditional punk productions are usually self-produced and independently published or released. “The first day in the studio with Rex,” Izzy the Gent shares, “I showed up with a $99 Casio keyboard and played stock piano sounds. Rex didn’t bat an eye. He put the cheap keyboard through the vintage equipment and got it to vibe.” You got it right here peeps, the power of creativity! You work with what you have and get the best sound and vibe out of it.

The EP features two tracks, both with completely different vibes. “Hotshot” opens up with a super catchy and captivating guitar riff that sticks with you till the drum beat comes in. Praise then enters with a charming melodic vocal line showcasing her vocal uniqueness, there is a sense of melodious rage or grunge in her performance of this song, an interesting mix that highlights the depth and complexity of her vocals.

The second track, “Salt,” is a little bit of a contrast to the first in terms of tempo and emotional delivery. Praise delivers more aggressively while always maintaining her charming tone, and it perfectly complements the music which blends this punk rock rawness with her melodic lines. Pairing up both of these tracks in one EP was definitely a success, as it really shows an interesting range of emotions in delivery.

A&B Sides VOLL II is definitely an EP for anyone who is looking for authentic alt-punk vibes with a little bit of experimental spice. If that sounds like you, then wait no more and give that EP a good listen!

With their third collaboration with singer/songwriter/producer Sophia Prise, Everything But The Everything are back with their new heart-hitting single “Never Said”. As usually produced by Rex Shelverton, “Never Said” offers a warm sweet sound that’ll make you fall in love with it once you hit play. Let me tell you why.

“Never Said” opens with more disco-like or 90s pop-rock retro vibes. The unique production was the first thing that grabbed my attention, it resulted in a warm intimate sound that fit Sophia Prise‘s vocals perfectly. Digging deeper into the music, Everything But The Everything managed to create a state of emotional progression with their guitar tone choice, melodic guitars, and synths. Those guitars and synths kept on building up alongside the deep bass and beautiful sincere vocal melody, to a big sounding super catchy chorus that sets up the tone for the rest of the song’s progression. Everything But The Everything brilliantly steered the mood, keeping that touching heartfelt vibe without compromising the song’s dynamics, and the result was simply impressive!

Everything But The Everything sends regard to a lot of goth, classic pop, and pop rock influences, with a unique sound and way of writing/mixing melodies that’s their very own. “Never Said” has lots of layers and melodies that are well-written and arranged with a keen production on its emotional side, making it an enjoyable bitter-sweet-sounding piece that creates a deep bond with the listener. Will always keep on looking for more from Everything But The Everything, keep on rocking, cheers!

Started as a one-man band by Bay Area musician Izzy The Gent, Everything But The Everything turned into collaborative work with Landon Cisneros (Drums), Andrew Gomez (Synth), Izzy The Gent (Keys/Guitar/Bass Guitar), and producer Rex Shelverton with changing guest vocals to shake things off. In 2020 they collaborated with singer/songwriter Luke Sweeney on their single “Intimacy” and today, we’re gonna dig deep into it.

“Intimacy” is a brilliant psychedelic piece with fluid, well-written melodies and a powerful groovy bassline that plays a significant role in the verse’s setting. It starts with a filled-with-anticipation melody that smoothly builds up to the groovy verse, the rough guitar tone fits the melodies perfectly, and together with Everything But The Everything’s well-arranged synth and keyboards gave “Intimacy” a deeper more diverse sounding structure. “Intimacy” has smooth mellow dynamics with a strong groove and a dream-like psychedelic mood with Luke Sweeney’s catchy expressive vocals that kept things interesting throughout its 3:30 minutes.

“Intimacy” shows Everything But The Everything’s sense of melody and groove and their will of experimenting with different sounds and approaches, all through their strong songwriting skills and well command of their instruments. They created a multi-layered psychedelic mood that smoothly slipped into my on-repeat playlist. Looking forward to more from Everything But The Everything, cheers!
