Los Angeles based dream and indie pop duo Fore Fader, from forefather, is composed of the songwriting pair Stephanie Carlin and Carey Clayton. The duo have a sound that is sentimental and ethereal, opting to lean heavily on the ambient side of indie pop with grandiose reverbs, muffled rhythms, and cloudy synths in the case of ‘All I Ever’. 

Described by the band as a love story for the self and a pause in the chase, ‘All I Ever’ is distinctive as an ambient pop piece with its fast tempo delivered by a pulsating kick so muffled it feels eerily like a heartbeat, and while this quick pace takes away from the soothing element provided by the lush synths, there is still a lot of comfort to be found in the song’s dreamy melodies and reverberated delivery by the duo. 

A collaborative effort by Carlin and Clayton who have written, recorded, and produced the song, ‘All I Ever’ is a showcase of the duo’s musicianship. With its key changes and involved arrangement, the duo are able to craft something so deliberate and nuanced while draping it in a particular delicateness that’s grounding and satisfying.
