OF LIMBO shared last month their tribute for the legendary Van Halen’s hit “Finish What Ya Started.” Their acoustic version from their upcoming album “Unplugged,” which will be released this summer. Let’s find out more below.

Brothers Jake and Luke Davies are originally from Melbourne, Australia and now live in Long Beach, California. The band has gained a significant following over three years, especially after releasing “Estrada” in 2024. Their profile rose with the 2023 hit “California Demon,” featured on major Hard Rock & Metal playlists and praised by outlets like Loudwire and HEAVY. The 2022 track “Let’s Go” also received playlist placements across various music platforms and made the Top 10 Video Of The Year lists. Other songs include “Happened Again,” “Nothing But Now,” “Nicotine,” and a cover of “Fight For Your Right” by the Beastie Boys.

Their acoustic rendition of “Finish What Ya Started” truly demonstrates remarkable mastery. I was captivated by the emotive and powerful vocals, along with the acoustic guitars that maintained the same essence as the original single. The bridge of the song is simply marvelous, showcasing their unique touch on this cover. As you may know, the original track by Van Halen is distinctive for its stripped-down, bluesy groove, which diverges from the band’s typical hard rock sound. In my opinion, OF LIMBO has taken a clever approach. Why? Because many new bands tend to take one of two paths with their covers: either straying far from the spirit of the original or replicating it exactly, neither of which I find appealing. I appreciated how OF LIMBO retained the essence of the original while infusing it with their own style, which is truly innovative. “Jason Klein (formerly of Butcher Babies), our “Unplugged” bassist, brought us this one and we knew we had to do it. Van Hagar at their best! It’s a true “hound-dog” masterpiece. We would never try to improve on their perfection. But we did take a couple liberties with the song here and there!” – Jake Davies stated.

Finally, I believe you should check out the music video too. I absolutely loved it! I appreciated how the filming style maintains the original essence while the movements and models are truly impressive, perfectly supporting the concept. Without a doubt, this is a catchy rock tune that you must include in your day. The French solo artist, The Crimson Voyager, has just launched his debut single, “New Transmission,” which draws inspiration from the enigmas of the cosmos and is captured by the Deep Space Network.

The track is truly remarkable; it transports me back two or three decades. I appreciate how the song seamlessly blends different styles into a cohesive whole. I found myself a little perplexed, as the press kit labels it as an alternative rock or hard rock piece, but I believe it encompasses much more. I can detect significant elements of glam and heavy metal within the mix.

The powerful vocals effortlessly catch my attention. I really enjoyed how catchy the riffs are and how tight the rhythm feels. All of this easily captivates any listener. When you reach the song’s bridge, you’ll truly be impressed by its remarkable transition.

The intricate layers of soundscape are crafted with precision, inviting listeners to lose themselves in the celestial dance of melody and rhythm. Each note is like a star flickering in the night sky, drawing us deeper into the narrative of the cosmos. The guitar riffs surge like solar flares, while the bass and drums create a gravitational pull that is both grounding and exhilarating. As the song progresses, it evolves, much like the universe itself, expanding with intensity and complexity.

Do you long for the days of Glam music? Honestly, who doesn’t? Replaced By Robots is here with their debut EP, The Experiment. Trust me when I say it captures the essence of what we’ve been missing in today’s rock music. Let’s explore more details below.

Goolkasian, known as The Texas Governor, initially gained fame with the prankster trio The Elevator Drops in Boston alongside Garvy J and Fitts, touring with bands like Echo & The Bunnymen. After quitting music in 1999, he returned in the early 2000s as The Texas Governor but quit again. In the mid-2000s, he collaborated with Morgan and Terry Palmer to form Lovesick, creating a dream-pop version of “Beach Foam” with producer Ross Cisneros. In 2024, Goolkasian and Morgan teamed up with Adam Wade, leading to a burst of musical chemistry and the transformation of Lovesick into a new project called Replaced By Robots.

Well, picture this… Imagine being in a laboratory where scientists are experimenting with new ideas. This is how I felt about “Replaced By Robots“; I admired how the studio embraced this concept as their creative lab, allowing them to explore innovative approaches that ultimately led to a remarkable masterpiece. As you dive deeper into the story behind the creation of this EP, you’ll appreciate how they achieved such an exceptional result. They collaborated with the legendary producer Paul Q. Kolderie (known for his work with Pixies, Dinosaur Jr., and Radiohead), who instinctively pushed the bass and guitar elements to their limits. This collaboration imparted an unmistakable GLAM-era vibe and a “Rhythmic Pulse” that energizes tracks like “All The Lonely Nights.”

In this unique laboratory, you’ll experience the art of presenting an experiment through an impressive debut EP. Choosing the talented producer Josh Hager (known for his work with Devo and The Elevator Drops) is a brilliant decision, as he collaborates once again with Goolkasian to create “Are We Falling in Love or Am I Just Losing My Mind?”

It’s quite challenging for me to point out a weakness or mention an aspect I didn’t particularly enjoy. However, once you explore this “experiment,” you’ll appreciate the blend of diverse styles, such as alternative, glam, goth, shoegaze, and additional influences. Now, it’s time to experience the allure—take a listen below.

Upon encountering the warning at the start of Debbie Christ‘s latest video, your curiosity will be piqued, leading you to seek further information. In my view, whether this is a storytelling technique or not, it is undeniably brilliant. Not only does it introduce diverse music, but it also offers a unique approach to music promotion. Let’s delve deeper into her concept of ‘Lust!’

Clara O’Page is the mastermind behind Debbie Christ. The Montreal-based singer-songwriter is currently working on her debut album “Tower,” as O’Page and her band aim to challenge societal taboos on shame, sexuality, and trauma through theatricality and fashion, making the content more accessible. “I’m the youngest of six,” O’Page explains, “so I was encouraged to be funny and outgoing — I love to be goofy and make people laugh — but vulnerability was foreign to me. I grew up in an Evangelical household where you just don’t talk about the icky bits. You save those for God. On top of that, my dad’s side is English. It’s a very repressed cultural mindset. So, where I’m typically a clown day to day, music is my place where I can be more serious. Getting into punk music, I gradually got more comfortable disclosing my feelings. I learned that it can be revolutionary just to simply say what you’re actually feeling. That’s very profound for someone like me. Like I’m not someone who cries very easily, so music is how I do my crying. And it evolved to the point where there’s now a definite shock-value element.”

The video for “Lust!” features a stylish portrayal of sexual violence as a metaphor for addiction by Debbie Christ and director Aaron Nadal. First, I should praise the impressive filming concept, which features a highly talented crew and actors/actresses. I loved how the concept was filmed in a retro concept, which is pretty unique. In addition, the acting and production crew were able to deliver the song message perfectly with an impressive output.

Clara O’Page as Debbie Christ‘s emotive powerful vocals cannot be ignored while watching and listening to “Lust!.” Her singing passion can be observed while listening indeed. I loved the tight structure by Jacob Barton on guitars with an impressive melodic soloing, along with a harmonic atmosphere by Jacob Tarasofsky on keyboards. The success of all of this was built on a strong song core by Christian Lee on bass along with Jack Moore on drums.

It worth mentioning that is not only the music can combine various styles together but also, the lyrical topic is very important in such a digital world that easily spread misconceptions; “I’m not trying to piss people off,” she adds with a laugh, “but I feel like people need to be shaken up. There are too many ways that we’re all just so… bound-up. And it would benefit us all to just be able to break free and have room to breathe. My favorite photographer, for example, is Robert Mapplethorpe. I’m really inspired by his ability to make people question what art is versus what’s just vulgar and over-the-top. And I like dwelling in that place where you’re kind of squirming in your uncertainty. If you do that with a conscience — if you actually have a point — I feel like that can be very useful. Especially if the music underneath really grabs you. And that’s where all the different styles come in. We’re trying!”

Thadeus Gonzalez, an artist from Oakland, demonstrates that rock music is thriving in today’s fast-paced digital and electronic age. The remarkable originality of his fourth album, “Street Fights Are Starting To Hurt,” is truly impressive. Let me explain why below.

The album features nine tracks and a cover of one of the most underrated hard rock and glam bands, Zebra. The energetic vibes and emotive vocals of the first two tracks make it easy to become enamored with the album. The third track, “Tussle,” stands out as a fantastic choice for a featured track. The melodic harmony is reminiscent of rock anthems from the golden era of the 70s and 80s, a quality that I particularly enjoy.

It is evident from listening to the album that it reflects Thadeus Gonzalez‘s personal experiences. The lyrics delve into feelings of being unsettled, discontent, and resolute, drawing inspiration from specific life situations. Gonzalez noted that this album takes a different direction from his previous work, stating, “I wanted something completely different from Opposite Faces which was an intentionally random and artsy hard rock album. This album is very concise and to the point. I wrote all of the songs on an acoustic guitar, wanting the singer songwriter vibe to be really heard in the final mixes. The lyrics are predominately about being unsettled, discontent, and standing your ground. More than on previous albums, I pulled song ideas from specific situations in my life.”

As you delve further into the album, particularly in the middle tracks, I admire the fusion of vintage retro rock with modern mixing elements and performance techniques. It’s truly remarkable. Upon reviewing the album credits, I gained insight into the collaborative production involving Recorded, Engineered, Kyle Homme (Recording, Production, and Mastering), along with Tim Narducci and Dennis Hill, all of whom boast an impressive portfolio.

Thadeus Gonzalez ensured that each track stands out with its unique characteristics, a crucial aspect considering many new artists tend to produce albums where all songs sound alike. However, “Street Fights Are Starting To Hurt” guides you through a diverse journey in each track, evoking various emotions like happiness, sadness, and ambition. This diversity breathes life into the music, making it truly iconic. His energetic rendition of “Tell Me What You Want” for Zebra maintains the original song structure, captivating the listener without losing its essence.

Thadeus Gonzalez, in my view, stands out as the top artist in 2024 for expertly blending rock, blues, and soul genres. His music, praised by both critics and fans, hints at a future rock legend in the making. Cheers to that!

We had the chance to talk about Dirty Mitts before on our blog. ‘Women’ is taken from their upcoming EP ‘Hands Off!,’ which is set to be released on Friday, November 10th, 2023. Let’s discover!

Imagine that you’re sitting in your local bar, and the music is turned on, you are listening to an old school drumming, catchy guitar riffs, and powerful vocals. Yeah! This is what I felt while listening to ‘Women’ by Dirty Mitts. I believe that this song includes all your loving glam, hard rock, and heavy influences. It took you with a time machine to the golden era of rock n’ roll.

Dirty Mitts started their career last year and has been praised in several media outlets in several countries. They deserve it indeed. These days we lack such impressive old-school/modern output. These four dudes know how to keep their harmony and chemistry tight, which I find that many acts these days lack to do.

Women reminded me of many iconic names like Def Leppard, Mötley Crüe, Dokken, Skid Row, Steel Panther, and Ratt, among many other names. In fact, I see their music as a mix of all these legendary acts.

In my opinion, what makes Dirty Mitts‘ music iconic, is how it can be like music from two different eras. Definitely, I will be waiting for their EP ‘Hands Off!’ this November. Now, it’s time to feel the vibes. Enjoy!
