Cliffside Park, New Jersey – After more than a decade since their last original release, North Jersey punk rock veterans I.D.K. make a triumphant return with their new single “Nark 5,” available now on all major digital platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, Bandcamp, and YouTube via Scorpion Records.

Marking the band’s first original composition since 2008, “Nark 5” channels the intensity and emotional depth of the prison break sequence from Season 1 of Star Wars: Andor. Written by lead vocalist Anthony “Red” Paladino, the song unfolds as a two-part narrative from the perspectives of key characters: Cassian Andor’s alias Keef Girgo during his capture by the Empire, and Kino Loy, the inmate floor manager who rallies the prisoners in a daring escape. With soaring vocals, driving guitars, and cinematic dynamics, the track captures I.D.K.’s signature punk/hardcore blend of precision and raw power, while venturing into fresh storytelling territory.

Red explains, “I wanted to write a song that puts listeners right inside the walls of Narkina 5 – that feeling of being trapped, finding hope, and rising up. It’s about resistance, unity, and the cost of freedom.”

⇒ Check out our review for “Nark 5” here.

“Nark 5” serves as a prelude to the band’s upcoming EP, slated for release on Scorpion Records in 2026, signaling a renewed era of activity for the group. To complement the single’s epic scope, I.D.K. has partnered with Stone Fisted Production for an official music video, currently in its final editing phase, with a premiere date to be announced soon. Fans can expect a visually striking companion that amplifies the song’s themes of rebellion and liberation.

We’re excited to share our new single, “Nark 5,” the latest release from I.D.K. — a hard-hitting rock track driven by sharp riffs, explosive drums, and a hook built to stick. Having been around since the 1990s, we don’t say this lightly — “Nark 5” is another I.D.K. classic in the making. It captures the raw tension and unapologetic energy that’s defined our sound for decades, delivered with a renewed urgency that hits just as hard today.

After more than a decade without releasing original material, I.D.K. return not with nostalgia, but with ignition. Nark 5 lands like a controlled explosion, fusing the band’s classic hardcore urgency with a cinematic emotional charge that feels both timely and timeless.

Driven by sharp, muscular riffs and explosive percussion, the track wastes no time establishing tension. The sound is dense yet precise: post-hardcore grit meeting punk’s relentless forward motion. But what elevates Nark 5 beyond a standard comeback single is its narrative ambition. Inspired by the prison arc of Star Wars: Andor, the song channels claustrophobia, defiance, and collective uprising into something visceral. You don’t just hear the tension, you feel the walls closing in.

Anthony “Red” Paladino delivers with raw conviction, balancing aggression with dramatic pacing. The chants and surges of intensity mirror the emotional arc of captivity turning into resistance. There’s a theatrical quality here, not polished, but purposeful, like a live wire humming with urgency. The band’s longtime sonic identity remains intact, yet there’s a noticeable expansion in structure and atmosphere. What may have once been a fast two-minute punk blast now unfolds with cinematic rises and crushing release.

Thematically, Nark 5 resonates beyond its sci-fi inspiration. It’s about endurance, unity, and the moment hope becomes action. That emotional core gives the track a striking immediacy, one that reflects both personal struggle and broader social tension.

For a band rooted in the 1990s hardcore scene, this is not merely a return. It’s a reaffirmation of purpose. Nark 5 sounds like I.D.K. rediscovering their fire, and then amplifying it; and if this single signals the direction of their upcoming work, the next chapter won’t be a revival. It will be an escalation!

Splinter’s newest single ‘Get A Job’ is a purebred piece of punk that carries all the rowdy character and drama, the counterculture lyrical delivery, and the innate rebelliousness that the genre is well known and revered for.

Based in the heart of London’s underground scene, Splinter are a punk outfit who are set to release their full length studio album Click, Swipe, Buy in this upcoming June, taking a swing at this age’s consumerism, fame, and modern culture, and ‘Get A Job’ is a pretty sizable bite at what the album has to offer, as well as what makes Splinter an outfit to keep an eye out for.

On the surface, this song runs for a little more than 2 minutes, during which time the band rock our world with a manic beat and a punchy drum performance that is cavernous and caveman-ish, a hairy and distorted guitar riff, and most prominently a vocal delivery from Mark Marven that is a lite blend of Sleaford Mods’ Jason Williamson and Viagra Boys’ Sebastian Murphy. The lyrics are rather direct and honest jab at the entitlement of many people today wanting to cherry pick through their life, choosing money and fame and opting out of working.

An indelicate punch at a consumerist society that seems to be going from bad to worse by the day, ‘Get A Job’ is also a little taster of what Splinter are having in store for us both musically, and lyrically, and we are left rather impatient now to see what Click, Swipe, Buy is hiding.

I have always felt that Beatdown is a subgenre that demands significant experience to truly master. The American band LCTR stands out as one of the contemporary hardcore legends. Their latest EP, These Streets, marks the debut recording with their new drummer, Ethan Donnelly. Let’s explore this further and prepare for some serious headbanging!

The “These Streets” EP features three tracks, beginning with “In Regards to Elvis.” I consider this track an excellent representation of a Beatdown hit! As you may know, this subgenre originates from hardcore punk and metalcore, characterised by its heavy, aggressive, and breakdown-centric sound.

The powerful vocals delivered by Travis Simmons are complemented by slow, crushing breakdowns.

These breakdowns are skillfully executed by Tim Madison (Guitar – Vocals), Greg Branch (Bass), and their remarkable new drummer, Ethan Donnelly.

“Ethan brings a raw, instinctive energy to the band that immediately clicked with the rest of us,” says lead vocalist Travis Simmons. “These Streets captures where we’ve been and where we’re headed—it’s heavier, sharper, and more honest than anything we’ve done before.”

As I immersed myself in “Funeral Lust,” I appreciated how it maintained the same breakdown mood while introducing a more aggressive and thrashy rhythmic style. The harsh growls and impressive screams added to its intensity, creating an iconic raw atmosphere. In fact, this song made me feel as though I was experiencing the best of two great bands from different eras.

I am truly captivated by LCTR’s musical diversity. Take a listen to “A Committee of Vultures,” where I was amazed by its remarkable fusion of extreme, thrash, hardcore, and even heavy metal elements. Absolutely! These four seasoned musicians excel at creating a vibe that inspires continuous headbanging! Each track on the EP tells its own story, intricately weaving narratives of struggle, resilience, and the raw, unfiltered essence of urban life.

As LCTR gears up for a series of live performances to promote the EP, they promise a show that will be as unforgettable as the music itself—an immersive experience that captures the essence of their powerful sound and the energy of their dedicated fanbase. Whether you’re a longtime follower or a newcomer to the beatdown hardcore scene, “These Streets” is set to be a defining moment in LCTR‘s career. Get ready to lose yourself in the music and find your place among the throngs of headbanging fans who understand that these streets tell stories worth hearing.

Typically, death metal bands from the United States possess a distinctive sound that is hard to replicate. The End Is Near showcases their talent with an impressive EP titled “Executioner,” lasting just under 8 minutes, which highlights their remarkable skill. Prepare yourself for some intense headbanging below…

The four-track EP delivers powerful vocals that instantly capture the attention of extreme metal enthusiasts. I appreciate the groovy guitar riffs that create a remarkable harmony. The guitars are truly exceptional, showcasing influences from the old-school while presenting them in a clean, modern blend. Furthermore, it’s clear that the band embraced the philosophy of “short and sweet.” Each track is concise and direct, perfect for fans eager to headbang!

The collaboration with Alex Gurnbaum on “Digging Ditches” adds layers of depth and showcases the band’s willingness to push boundaries and explore new sonic territories. This EP not only pays homage to the metalcore roots of Orange County but also paves the way for a new era of innovation and creativity within the genre.

With its raw energy and relentless pace, The Executioner EP provides a glimpse into The End Is Near’s evolving soundscape. Each track is meticulously crafted, combining ferocious riffs with haunting melodies that linger long after the music stops. As fans dive into tracks like “Grindhouse,” they will be transported into a world of intense rhythms and gripping storytelling. “Executioner” is more than just a debut; it’s a statement of intent, a bold declaration that The End Is Near is ready to leave an indelible mark on the metal scene. As anticipation builds for their debut LP, fans can rest assured that this is just the beginning of an exhilarating journey.

Last October we at Rock Era Magazine were very impressed by Clare Easdown’s release “Rebel Hearts,” and she strikes again with a new punk hit, “BURN THE SWASTIKA.” Let’s explore more below.

Clare Easdown is an Australian artist who is known for her impressive smooth blend with various music styles. Her duo Jade Ryan known as The Cunning Linguists, was highly acclaimed by fans and critics alike in their local scene. Jade ow oversees all the lyrics her latest is BURN THE SWASTIKA,”

Musically, it’s quite delightful to see how the sound is greatly influenced by various punk icons. However, what truly stands out and feels fresh is Clare Easdown‘s remarkable talent. While many artists draw inspiration from classic bands or musicians, she uniquely blends these influences with her striking and original raw vocal style. She skillfully combines everything and serves it to you on a polished platter.

Lyrically, I think the song will resonate more with Australians, yet its overarching theme will connect with people worldwide. As Clare mentioned in her press kit; “A heavily anti-racist stance is explored in ‘BURN THE SWASTIKA’. Current events such as Neo-Nazi’s marching on “Australia Day” aka Invasion Day have deeply shaped us releasing “BURN THE SWASTIKA”. We really detest racist ideology and want to encapsulate this in our music.”

In just 1 minute and 30 seconds, Clare Easdown delivers an outstanding punk anthem. Now, it’s your turn to experience and enjoy the captivating performance below.

BACK TO BASICS WITH A TWIST!

The 351’s have erupted onto the punk scene from Quebec City with their debut EP, No Replacement for Displacement, out on Pils Records. Formed just over a year ago, this band captures the classic punk sound with a distinct modern twist, serving up raw, relentless tracks that pay tribute to the genre’s roots while bringing fresh energy to the mix.

Channeling the gritty, DIY spirit of 70s punk, The 351’s deliver a raw, tight, and unapologetically loud experience. The lineup, Kev “Alley Cat” Berrigan on guitar and vocals, Dom Rudester on bass, and Martin Gagné on drums brings an unfiltered, back-to-basics ethos with a sound that respects punk’s past without dwelling in nostalgia.

The EP’s lead track, Mother Anarchy, sets the tone. Opening with a jittery radio-tuning effect, the track explodes into a wall of guitar, bass, and drums that refuse to let up. Berrigan’s gravelly vocals add a layer of edge, bringing a melodic punk vibe reminiscent of bands like Rancid. The gang vocals at around 36 seconds pack extra punch, creating an anthemic singalong feel.

Fuck All Fuckers, the EP’s second track, doubles down on the rebellion with unrestrained energy, capturing the essence of punk’s nonconformity and grit. The third track, The Hearse Song, keeps the momentum rolling, delivering dynamic shifts and raw power that align with the EP’s gritty aesthetic.

This EP is a testament to The 351’s mission to keep punk authentic and impactful. Renaud Rochette’s engineering, Jim’s mastering at Jimi Studios, and Chany Pilote’s tape mastering give the record a sense of depth without being overly polished which adds to the authenticity of the sound.

With No Replacement for Displacement, The 351’s prove they’re here to make punk matter again, blending homage with a modern edge. Keep an ear out, everyone! The 351’s will be back in the studio soon, and we can’t wait to see what is next!

Hailing from Menai, Australia, Clare Easdown is a singer-songwriter and producer known for experimenting with a myriad of genres from trip-hop to pop-punk and post-punk. Her latest single, Rebel Hearts, caught my attention due to its special production and powerful lyrical message.

The song begins with Clare’s multi-layered vocals in a what feels like a dark post-punk-ish vibe, but once the drums kick in the sound shows some more energetic and rhythmic playing similar to many pop-punks bands of the 2000s. The way Clare sings the verses feels honest and heartfelt, and as she’s singing predominantly in the lower registers/pitches it’s pretty easy to get most of the lyrics on your first listen. The hook is beautifully connected to the verses and doesn’t stray far from the energetic drum sound of the verses…one of the song’s most unique qualities.

Another aspect I have to point out is, this song was mixed and mastered by Clare herself, to keep some of the imperfections and intricacies that make every artist and every person who they are and who they sound like match with the lyrics. A beautiful and artistic choice, in my opinion.

All in all, this song is unlike anything you’ve heard in pop rock or punk before, but it has the rebellious edge that all punks love, in both musical and lyrical choices. I’ll definitely keep this one on my playlist for a while.

Priced Out’s debut EP passes all the tests that qualify it to be a solid punk offering. Garage-y, lo-fi, visceral, and angsty, Priced Out are debuting with a catchy banger.

Based in Vancouver, Canada, Priced Out are a five-piece post-punk outfit composed of a pair of guitarists, bass, guitar, and vocals, all dropping some immediately thrilling riffing, solid song building, impactful lyrics, and memorable production on their aptly named debut EP ‘Four Songs’. Perhaps one of the album’s more interesting features is its rapid-fire pace, finishing four songs before the 10-minute mark, making the listening experience a blistering one that doesn’t give the listeners much chance to process the scale of the mayhem ensuing.

Musically speaking, the album’s single most defining feature is actually the snare. Tight and plasticky, pronounced and off-kilter, it is the sound’s most prominent feature, and it also gives the songs the visceral and delicious lo-fi feel. Other than that, the 4 short songs are full of social commentary, and in pure Canadian fashion, the general message of the songs is for people giving each other opportunities, support, and empathy, regardless of how angry the sound is. The starter ‘Pull The Ladder Up’ is full to the brim with infectious riffs and a noise-filled atmosphere, and ‘Hedge Fund Maze’, the EP’s third cut, is a shape-shifting, little demon of a song, jumping from intense sludgy sections to funky interludes, to thrashy riffs within the matter of seconds, and the album closer ‘Artwashing’ is like cursed with the juiciest dissonant wails, making it one of the album’s most interesting listens.

Four Songs is easily an exciting debut by Priced Out. Showcasing solid songwriting and a distinctive sound and message, an EP that stokes the fire for more punk from Priced Out.

American heavy metal band WORLDSUCKS transcends the concept of a musical group…it’s more of a global movement advocating for a more comprehensive approach to freedom and change.

It calls for a peace summit between those who see the world for what it is and everyone else…and shedding light on the oppressive power of the political elites and billionaires.

Born out of friendship and fueled by frustration…the NY-based group-aims through their songs and shows- to stand for the injustices of the world…

…seeking out others who feel a similar sense of rage and exasperation towards the inequalities and injustice in the world we live in today…

As WORLDSUCKS say…

“This is activism rock, just one action of many we’re trying to take to stand up for the liberation of all people. We are not hopeless—justice is inevitable.”

…and now, they release their latest endeavors to the world, in the form of an EP titled “No!Go! 7″…an epic odyssey through a fiery heavy metal realm that is absolutely face melting and full of adrenaline rushes…and they make that possible with just 2 songs on the EP.

Through brilliant twists and turns, WORLDSUCKS manages to create mountainous amounts of music, activism, and messages to humanity in under 10 minutes!

Their first song is “No!Go!”…and this is where the musical power of WORLDSUCKS hits you like a freight train…fast, powerful, and borderline reckless in the most heavy-metal way possible…the song maintains that level of power for the first two-thirds of its journey, then goes into a half beat section that is just so musically heavy…

…moving to the next stop in the journey that WORLDSUCKS has created…we go into “No Fucks Give”…and that is exactly what they must have been thinking while making the song…they break the rules, create new one…all while maintaining their creative persona and energy…

Listening to WORLDSUCKS’ EP “No!Go! 7” has been a mind-blowing experience…my only gripe was that there wasn’t more.

…and for a pretty unique experience, make sure you check out WORLDSUCKS live, especially that we have here their upcoming tour schedule…pretty neat, eh?
