Laden with twisting and driving riffs, an extremely tight production job, and a juicy array of performances, ‘Gone Cold’ showcases Honeybadger in the slickest guise possible.

A British indie rock outfit, specializing in grunge with a hint of lawless punk, Honeybadger are a Brighton-based trio, and their latest single is called ‘Gone Cold’. The first thing that caught my attention is the trio’s fantastic songwriting, somehow blending bluesy, garage punk vibes with snaking, prog-like melodies, and vocal runs, both colors in perfect, chaotic harmony.

Eddy’s guitars and voice, his brother Joe’s beats, and old school friend Luca’s bass, collectively call themselves Honeybadger, and they describe their style as high-energy garage punk. ‘Gone Cold’ features a litany of sweet and thick overdriven rhythm guitars, a rhythm section that’s out of this world, and a poised mix that’s too crisp for such a scruffy, misbehaving song. An engaging song from its first to last moment, the song is structured beautifully with riffs that abruptly stop and just as abruptly begin again, and with a drum and bass duality that’s hot enough to melt all the mics in that studio room.

‘Gone Cold’ is a truly fantastic listen. Just a solidly written rock tune that’s a little out there, masterfully balanced to look dirty and hairy, while holding in its core an extremely nuanced collection of riffs and rhythms.
