An artist from the town of Sabbatus, Maine, Hyporadar is the stage name adopted by Shane Duquette, self produced one man show. Hyporadar’s ‘This Ain’t the Day I Die’ introduces listeners to everything Duquette stands by, with its skeletal arrangement and lo-fi production, this bass and drum only number is catchy, groovy, and surprisingly elegant. A bold song that oozes with character through its simplicity.

The song, composed only of a drum kit, a punchy bass, and a tinny and addictive percussion part, is masterfully laid back. The gentle tempo works magic alongside the juicy and groovy bass riff. Duquette’s chill vocals are the cherry on top of this cake, and an addictive percussion line paradoxically elevates the song via its 5 syncopated hits. ‘This Ain’t the Day I Die’ is a terrific chapter to start diving into Hyporadar’s music with.

Blending the boldness of Arctic Monkeys with the out there-ness of Pixies while doing something fiercely individual, Hyporadar’s genre-crossing sound is an odd pleasure to behold.

It’s all about the bass! The Sabattus-based solo artist Hyporadar unveiled his latest EP, Frankie & Estelle, on January 22, 2025. Let’s dive deeper into this creatively crafted storytelling release.

“Frankie & Estelle” is a captivating 5-track EP that instantly captures your attention with its opening track, “Hey Cabbie.” I absolutely adore his raw and distinctive vocal style. When you give it a listen, you might find that his voice evokes the unforgettable era of alternative rock from the 90s.

Do you recall when I emphasized the importance of the bassline? I truly stand by that point. Crafting music centered around the bassline is both creative and clever, especially when paired with a precise drumming style that results in an iconic alternative masterpiece.

Upon exploring his press kit in greater detail, I discovered that he faced significant challenges due to a scarcity of contributors from his town to assist with this release. This situation compelled him to take on every aspect of the project, and I am truly impressed by the results. I have always maintained that overcoming difficulties often leads to innovative ideas, which is clearly evident in “Frankie & Estelle.”

With influences drawn from the vivid storytelling in “Hey Cabbie,” Hyporadar has created a musical journey that resonates with both the heart and mind.
