Nova Scotia via London, UK singer-songwriter Jont‘s new single, “Fingers Crossed,” is a powerful and emotionally charged anthem that dives deep into the complexities of forgiveness, accountability, and the transformative process of taking control of one’s own emotional freedom. The song offers an unflinching exploration of the personal struggle to let go of anger and pain, turning them into liberation rather than allowing them to fester into resentment.

Jont‘s music has always carried a sense of introspection, and “Fingers Crossed” is no exception. It comes from a place of yearning for release—release from waiting for someone else to acknowledge their wrongdoing. The song highlights how we often find ourselves trapped in the prison of unspoken grievances, waiting for apologies that may never come, all the while neglecting the fact that we have the power to release ourselves from this self-imposed captivity.

“Sometimes we need to see the truth, to be shocked by the unrelenting truth of how things are, so that we can make a change,” says Jont. “And that change invariably needs to happen in us, not in someone else. ‘Fingers Crossed‘ is about that realization. It’s about forgiveness, and how it’s often not about the person we are waiting to apologize, but about us choosing to forgive and move on.”

The song also attests unblinkingly to the devastating ways unprocessed trauma shapes our behaviour in intimate relationships and to the importance of expressing anger in a healthy way.

Jont explains, “Once you’ve realized that you have been keeping yourself in prison by not forgiving them, and that they are just on their path with whatever trauma they have and you are on yours and you’re both in essence doing your best – then you need a healthy way to let go of your grief and disappointment that has manifested as anger. I found writing this song the perfect way to express this and I hope other people will be able to use it for that too!”

With its poignant folk-rock sound, the song is as raw as it is cathartic, offering both a visceral stomp and a reflective lyricism that will resonate with anyone who has ever struggled with letting go of pain.

The song’s music video, directed by Annaka Gale and Dario Lozano-Thornton, is a visual extension of its themes. “We knew we had the opportunity to create something deeply connected to the shadow realms,” says Jont. “The moments in the video are shocking but playful, and the intense, graphic re-enactments of toxic relationship dynamics are designed to be visceral, dark, and most importantly, true to the nature of those deeply painful moments that so many experience.”

The shoot itself was a process for Jont. “After the video shoot, I found myself wiped out and actually quite shaken. Not surprisingly the intense experience of shooting the video had triggered some old stuff,” he shares. “However, to live out those emotional shocks in the video, in real-time, opposite another actor (Holly Stevens), felt like the journey I needed to go on to honour the real meaning of the song and allow it to really hit home.”

Jont is a singer-songwriter and frontman of Jont & The Fish, a gatherer of community and a longtime organizer of joy-filled ceremonies and musical events.

Jont‘s music has always been a beacon to those who are looking for support and comfort. Over the years, the style and genre of his albums has shifted back and forth from acoustic and intimate to orchestrated and upbeat, but the feel and message of Jont‘s songs remains the same: deeply personal and effortlessly universal, each one is a hallelujah for this life we share, declaring implicitly – you are me and I am you.

2025 sees Jont – with his new band, The Fish – delivering the most powerful work of his career – the kind of authentic, biting, truthful and mature work that comes from an artist reaching the height of their powers. Come with Jont on his journey. Open yourself to the warm embrace of his music and join a global community of like-minded souls who treat his music as pure medicine.
