Listening to Marshall Oakman’s latest single I was reminded of ballad rock legends like Eric Carmen and Elton John. At first, I thought that was weird, given that Oakman is a relatively obscure balladeer from New York. But then I paid some attention to all the nuances of the composition, the warmth of the melodies, and the soul that the singing is delivered with, then I started to think it was reasonable. Then I found out about who was performing alongside Oakman, and I figured that the fantastic quality was to be expected.

Most notable on ‘When Life’s Cold’ is the intricate composition, bustling with unfamiliar chord moves, heartfelt yells, and a terrific piano performance from Oakman. The mix is saturated and sounds healthy, with a pounding drum part, simplistic and driving, a lush rhythm guitar part, and nicely calculated vocal harmonies, and along with the song’s encouraging, heartwarming lyrics, Marshall Oakman is here to present us a delectable meal of feel-good pop rock.

Featuring some of New York’s most revered session musicians, Oakman has teamed up with Kasim Sultan on Bass, Liberty Devitto on drums, and Paul Pesco on guitar, from Joan Jett, Billy Joel, and Madonna fame respectively. An illustrious team of musicians united under a wholesome vision by one terrific songwriter, ‘When Life’s Cold’ is here to help you make your life warm.

“When I’m singing the blues, I’m singing life.” Nothing better than the words of the legendary Etta James to start my reviews. I have always believed that the blues is imitating our lives, telling the stories, but in a very emotive raw way, which is what really makes it unique. As a start, I believe that Marshall Oakman did that and I consider ‘At The Boiling Point‘ the best blues hit I released this year so far.

The song kicks off with a catchy piano line with smoothy guitar licking and then Marshall’s voice kicks in with his powerful vocals style. Oakman is a high prolific New York-based performing singer-songwriter who released his latest single At The Boiling Point which he was very keen to choose the best iconic New York musicians Kasim Sultan on Bass, Liberty Devitto on Drums, and Paul Pesco on Guitar. Although the song classified as a blues hit style I can see impressive pop/rock elements to his music, which is really what makes his music so unique indeed. Well, since someone started his music passion at the age of six, it’s easy to find his professional and stunning talent capabilities. Also, I should mention that many singers-songwriters these days make sure to choose iconic musicians to be featured in their track, but this isn’t the case here because we already to about an ALL SUPER BLUES GROUP!
