With “Sudden Death,” Chile’s Helladdict doesn’t just revisit thrash metal’s golden age, they reignite it with the force of a furnace blast. Pulled from their February 2025 EP, the track tears open with searing guitar work, thunderous drums, and a double-vocal onslaught that feels both feral and fiercely deliberate. This isn’t retro worship, it’s revival with teeth!

From the very first riff, “Sudden Death” burns forward like a runaway train. The guitars slice through with razor-edge precision, while the rhythm section crushes beneath them like tectonic plates in motion. Helladdict’s chemistry is explosive, each player feeding the other in a surge of speed and defiance that channels the spirit of ‘80s and ‘90s thrash without ever sounding trapped in time.

There’s a controlled chaos to their sound. The vocals: gritty, rebellious, and unyielding, drive home the sense of unrest that defines the track’s essence. You can feel the band’s lived experience here: a maturity that sharpens rather than softens. Their decades in the scene translate into discipline, and that discipline fuels the ferocity.

Produced at Rockfels Studio, “Sudden Death” is built like a live performance bottled in voltage. It captures the rawness of a garage jam and the precision of a band that knows exactly where it wants to strike. Every beat, every scream, every shred hits with conviction.

And while the sound pays tribute to legends: Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth; Helladdict adds their own Chilean grit and social pulse. Their thrash isn’t escapist nostalgia; it’s a protest wrapped in distortion, a refusal to fade out quietly.

With “Sudden Death,” Helladdict cements their place as torchbearers of modern thrash: unyielding, unapologetic, and very much alive. This is music that demands volume, movement, and a raised fist. Turn it up, shred those riffs, and soar.

Thrash metal icons Megadeth have announced their self-titled final studio album, Megadeth, set for release on January 23, 2026, via Universal Music Enterprises. The 10-track powerhouse marks the end of an era for the band, culminating with a bold cover of Metallica‘s “Ride the Lightning”—a track co-written by frontman Dave Mustaine during his brief tenure with Metallica in the early 1980s. This poignant inclusion serves as a full-circle moment, reclaiming Mustaine’s contributions to the song while honoring the shared roots of thrash metal’s Big Four.

Since their formation in 1983 following Mustaine’s departure from Metallica, Megadeth has been a defining force in thrash and heavy metal, blending blistering speed, intricate riffs, and socially charged lyrics across 16 studio albums. Classics like Peace Sells… but Who’s Buying? (1986), Rust in Peace (1990), and Countdown to Extinction (1992) have sold over 38 million copies worldwide, earning multiple Grammy nominations and cementing the band’s legacy as innovators who pushed thrash beyond its punk-metal origins into progressive and melodic territories. With Mustaine’s razor-sharp songwriting, Marty Friedman’s legendary solos (on earlier works), and a rotating cast of elite musicians, Megadeth influenced generations, from nu-metal acts to modern prog-metal bands, while headlining arenas and festivals like Download and Wacken.

The decision to cover “Ride the Lightning” stems from Mustaine’s personal history with the track, which he helped compose before his ousting from Metallica. “It’s not about rivalry—it’s about owning my piece of that lightning bolt,” Mustaine shared in a recent interview. “This album is our swan song, and ending with something that started it all feels right. We’ve poured everything into it: the aggression, the melody, the fire.” The cover promises a Megadeth twist, with heavier production and Mustaine’s signature venomous delivery, transforming the original’s iconic riff into a fitting farewell.

Megadeth features a tracklist that blends new originals like lead single “Tipping Point” with this historic nod, produced by Mustaine and longtime collaborator Chris Rakestraw. The album artwork, revealed on social media, evokes the band’s dystopian themes with a post-apocalyptic Vic Rattlehead motif. Pre-orders are now available on the band’s website, including limited-edition vinyl and bundles.

As Megadeth prepares for a farewell world tour in 2026, supporting Iron Maiden on select dates, this album stands as a testament to their unyielding impact on heavy metal. “We’ve been thrashing for over 40 years—it’s time to bow out on our terms,” Mustaine added.

According to various sources on the web, here’s the upcoming album track-list:

“Tipping Point”

“I Don’t Care”

“Hey God?!”

“Let There Be Shred”

“Puppet Parade”

“Another Bad Day”

“Made To Kill”

“Obey The Call”

Daijor is an up-and-coming Egyptian metal group, that recently released its latest single “Rosas w Harb” as a stand for the beloved Palestinian land and its people. After checking the music video, I became more curious to know more about their music, philosophy, and upcoming plans. Let’s get started!

You started a year ago, tell me more about the group foundation.

Well, let’s start from the beginning, I’m Khaled Elnahas the rhythm guitarist of the band, I met with Misara at the Zamalek Theater Rock Festival back in 2021, I was playing rhythm guitar with the band Ka3b Dayer at the time, and he was the vocalist and rhythm guitarist for Lagham. A couple of months after the concert, I saw a post on Misara’s social media that he wanted to form a heavy metal band, so I contacted him and started the project, we searched for a lead guitarist and found Micheal a talented musician who came from upper Egypt, 2 drummers joined the band and lest for creative differences and to pursue another musical endeavors as they were working with other bands and there scheduling was not favoring our interests as a band. Fast forward to now, we continued our journey the three of us and after our first track was released, we asked our producer to join our ranks as a bassist, so the band’s current lineup is Misara, Khaled, Micheal, and Adham, and we are still looking for a drummer Hahahaha ????

By checking your Facebook page, I noticed a different line-up than in your latest single. Can you please elaborate?

Our previous drummer Mazen Maghraby left the band because he was already dedicated to other projects, and he couldn’t keep up with us after Mohamed Talha joined our ranks and stayed for more than a year after we found that we didn’t share the same vision for the band musical approach, so we parted ways, and as for Magdy Hanafy, he told us one day out of the blue that he will not continue with his musical career and he quits playing music in general, so we asked Adham to Join us a bassist after that.

“Rosas w Harb” a nice metal uprising for current events. Was it already one of the band’s previous goals or was it just to keep up with events?

This track is a special one for the band generally and for me personally, I wrote the riffs back in 2014 when I was just writing riffs and tracks for my amusement. Misara also wrote the lyrics sometime ago, and after we formed Daijor, it was planned that this track would be our fourth one, due to the current situation and what has been happening in Gaza, and the propaganda war that is currently happening, we thought that it’s our obligation as Muslims to use their weapons against them, and try to paint the written picture with what we can do. We believe that the powerful message that the song delivers will reach each and everyone who is concerned with the cause and maybe open some eyes to what’s happening.

So in general, what are the main themes behind the band’s lyrics?

Life struggles, pain, sorrow, grief, and depression.

What is the purpose of using various singing styles in one song? Won’t this be confusing for the listeners?

This style of singing is common in metal, metalcore, and melodic death, which we are heavily influenced by, also the riffs are kind of aggressive and need these harsh vocals to add an extra layer of aggression and anger to the mix.

Don’t you think using a multi-lingual lyric, would help you out more to deliver the message globally?

We are an Egyptian metal band, and we are proud of our language, and the Arabic language is a deep one with so many figures of speech and, meaningful words “Take the band’s name for example, it’s an Arabic fus-ha (Old Arabic) word that means darkness” also we tried to compensate for that by translating the song’s lyrics for non-Arabic speakers to understand, moreover, a lot of bands sing in their mother tongue and their music is quite enjoyable, and for that the fans go the extra mile to translate and understand their lyrics and lyrical theme.

I noticed that you’re keen to do a merge between old-school and modern metal styles, curious to know more guys about your influences.

So many genres and bands influence us, but the genres and bands that get us the most are thrash, metalcore, melodic death, symphonic metal, and doom metal from bands like Metallica, Megadeth, Kalmah, Parkwaydrive, As I Lay Dying, and many more.

Since metal music isn’t a mainstream style, would you consider doing any fusions with other styles in your upcoming releases?

We understand that metal music is an acquired taste and that it’s not for everyone, however, we can see ourselves evolving by trying different approaches, and different musical styles, but it will be through fusion of course and not changing to a specific genre on it’s own.

Finally, what are your plans for 2024?

We are planning to continue with our track releases, which will give us more exposure to the metal scene and metal fans, also we are looking forward to having our first gig at the beginning of 2024 because we believe that the Live sessions are as important as the recording sessions.

It was really an honor having this interview with you, and we are thrilled with your review of our track, thank you, and if you have any further questions just let us know.

Thank you for joining us, and keep on rockin’!

Megadeth somehow find their way on the news, usually due to front man Dave Mustaine’santics. This time, however, it’s because of their latest single, ‘The Threat is Real’ and there’s a good chance it’s going to inspire some controversy.

Musically speaking, it’s ok. More of the usual with the band’s impressive musicianship, but nothing too exciting; it starts with an Arabian mood ‘YaLeil, yaleil’ with some steady riffs following. The interesting part lies in the title and in the track’s composition: with a title like ‘The Threat is Real’ and their heavy use of Middle Eastern modes, it makes you wonder who they’re referring to. The solo captures both classiness and musicality of this band that was built up over the years.

But is it any surprise? Mustaine has been a lightning rod for controversy since day one, and his political views are hardly a secret, either. Still, this feels like he’s jumping on a bandwagon of hate, and that, dear audience, is un-metal as it gets.

You can check out the track below and decide on that for yourself.

Megadeth‘s latest album; Super collider, is not a super collider at all. The album is supposedly a Megadeth album, one of the biggest bands ever been. The big four, defender of the galaxy, countless titles and the list goes on, but what I heard here was more like a jamming session.

What the band did, was basically just sit together, get beer or whatever they like drinking, and start recording, wouldn’t even say they listened to the riffs, because it was commercial, and in music you got 2 of songs, the good “Oh my god, I love that melody” type, and the catchy “Baby baby baby ohhh” type. Well lads, that was neither. I don’t like it, nor do I remember anything of what I heard.

The album has 12 tracks and only, it seems, 1/4 are good, while others are just all right. ‘Kingmaker’ as almost perfect, as it is the opening track, and gives that feel – rather delusion – that the album is a kickarse that will stun, has some sweet melodies, shredding is rather nice, not as much solos as they used to have so it was alright, has really nice riffs, and it sounds like a proper Megadeth album. Comes then the annoying ‘Super Collider’ and ‘Burn’ giving you the feeling that you’re listening to a rock album, more like a rock jam, with the commercial riffs, and the very normal mid tempo track and easy lines. ‘Built for War’ then comes to try to fix everything by sounding like it’s on the same page as ‘Kingmaker’ as these are the only 2 songs I liked and felt like am listening to Megadeth.

‘Off the Edge’ and ‘Dance in the Rain’, I don’t think we would need to talk much about the names where they sound like 2 songs from Disney. Forget about the rocky groove in these 2 tracks, the riffs on ‘Dance in the Rain’ are not horrible, they are a wee mellow and they fit very well with the drum groove, I really liked the pedals/bass groove on it, but sadly it drifts from good to bad, then a shredding solo that doesn’t feel good, yet it takes me back to Megadeth good old times, but suddenly they have a weird effect on vocals that felt like Rammstein with a horrible drum/guitar groove that just wrecks everything.

‘Beginning of Sorrow’ has the perfect bass line intro, that says something like “Hey we’re back”, but then they hit you in the face with “Beginning of sorrow, there’ll be no tomorrow” and it suddenly feels like a Nickelback album. Even the harmony vocal line, along with the harmony guitar line feel so ordinary and commercial, somehow feels very commercial, but the solo somehow feels good, sweet and mellow. The bad thing about it is that the song feel doesn’t change at all, and it goes on till the end of the album.

However, the album has a guest appearance; Disturbed‘s David Draiman on the track ‘Dance in the Rain’ which sounded, quite alright.

In conclusion, the album is very commercial, with a thrashy effect is all, cute shredding and such. So, don’t expect any thrashy big score on this album for you’ll be disappointed. Basically, with music like today’s music and with big bands only releasing albums for the sake of only releasing stuff with the “Goodbye cruel world “theme to it; I reckon you listen to the album, only to add it your library as “Beginning of sorrow”! The album is roughly a 4.5/10.

Until now the Middle East is not really familiar with this term and defines it only as the project’s pocket money for a commercial success, and that term also goes very well in the Egyptian cinema production. When it comes to music. Some of the Egyptian independent artists- and Arabs too – now care about this issue and work on it.

Regardless, we will have another list for that; but for now, let’s discover more about people who really helped in modern music development, and worked with international artists and bands that we know and adore their hits. However, 50% of their success returns to their producers. Let’s know those music market masters…

Jimmy Page

Many people know him as the lead guitarist of the legendary classic rock band Led Zeppelin. Actually, the reason that Page created the band was his love to record production as well as putting new recording techniques, which became his legacy that was followed by music makers afterwards. Page spent hours and hours in the studio just trying to record techniques as well as observing the different points and changing microphones access, amplifier and trying new sounds and sometimes creating sound effects! Jimmy Page mainly produced for Led Zeppelin, The Firm and Screaming Lord Sutch bands. In addition, several side projects, one of them was Puff Daddy’s hit ‘Come With Me’.

Rick Rubin

One of the wide known names in Europe and States. This artists didn’t work on a specific genre; he just knew how to get the right tunes for an artist and deliver it to the audience. I guess there’s few of the music industry that Rubin didn’t work with. Yes, any international artist/band you know you will find his name behind them. Some of these are: Johnny Cash, Metallica, Slayer, Black Sabbath, Slayer, RHCP, AC/DC, Aerosmith, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, Limp Bizkit, SOAD, The Cult, Neil Diamond, Mick Jagger, ZZ Top, Audioslave, Rage Against The Machine Danzig, Kid Rock, Sheryl Crow. Away from rock music, he worked with Adele, Justin Timberlake, Shakira, Public Enemy, Eminem, Lady Gaga and many more…

Bob Rock

Bob is considered to be the man behind the success of Metallica. Yes, Bob was actually the main reason of letting some of Metallica’s riffs reach the fans in a proper sound and song structure. And that was so obvious in ‘A Year and Half in the Life of Metallica’; the documentary film that was made for the recording production for Metallica: ‘Black Album’ shows him giving instructions to the band and sometimes guiding, even arguing with them to work hard and get it right. In addition, he worked with Aerosmith, Motley Crue, The Cult, David Lee Roth, Bon Jovi, Cher, Skid Row, Bryan Adams, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, Michael Buble, and The Offspring. Besides, he is a well-known audio engineer, so he worked with Survivor, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith and many else.

Quincy Jones

Quincy Jones is considered as the most famous music producer on Earth! Jones started as a producer in the early 50s and was a well-known for his work with the King of Pop Michael Jackson, as well as, Little Richard, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, Frank Sinatra, Samuel George – a.k.a Sammy Davis, Jr. – Aretha Franklin, Eddie Van Halen, Will Smith, 2Pac, Ray Charles and hundreds! Besides, he was the producer, composer and conductor of many international hits such as ‘We Are the World’ and ‘Bokra’ – Tomorrow (A Better You, Better Me with many Arab artists such as; Shakira, Tamer Hosny, Souad Massi, Marawan Khoury, Latifa, Diana Karazon, and the American hip hop artist Akon. The song was written by Magda Al-Roumi.

Paul O’Neill

For you, who don’t know Paul, he is one of the responsible of creating the genre of progressive metal. O’Neill started as an engineer and worked with many international acts, such as; Aerosmith, Joan Jett, Def Leppard and others. In the 80s, he became the number one promoter for shows in Japan and promoting every tour of Madonna and Sting. The real change happened was with Savatage, which was when he changed the whole concept of the band from just a heavy metal band to become the first influential progressive metal band as well as his other orchestral works with same band members and other musicians in the ranked #1rock orchestra, Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

Tony Platt

Tony is one of the greatest English sound engineers and record producers. His resume could talk better than we do. Some of his notable works were with; Bob Marley, Buddy Guy, AC/DC, Iron Maiden, Gary Moore, Johnny Cash, Samson, Manowar, Celtic Frost, Ronnie James Dio and Anathema.

Dieter Dierks

Most known as the owner of one the best international studios, Dierks Studios (audio and video studios), and the producer for the legendary band Scorpions. Many international artists worked and record there, such as; Michael Jackson, Accpet, Tina Turner, and many others.

R. Kelly

This could be a name that many readers weren’t expecting in such a list, but this awesome composer, song-writer, arranger, mixer and record producer should be mentioned also.

No one can deny that Ahmed Hesham, one of the most talented and experienced drummers in Egypt, reached fame in a very short time, how did he make it? What did he go through to reach that? Let’s find out.

Ahmed, can you tell more about how it all started?

I started playing drums at the age of 16 and my first experience was with Metal music, with all its variations like Rock, Black and death metal.

On the other hand my cousin Tamer Tawfik was a big reason for me to be a musician, he is an opera singer and he has always pushed me to listen to different kind of music like (Opera , Jazz, Latin, Tango and even Rock music.)

I’ve been in love with music ever since I was a kid and my mom was the first one who noticed that I’ll be a drummer because I’d stroke anything with spoons and forks haha, I don’t remember that exactly but she told me the whole story about it later. Finally I got my first drum kit when I was 16 years old, I started playing to all the songs that I know, like Hey You by Pink Floyd, Fade to black and Master of Puppets by Metallica and finally Trust and Symphony of destruction by Megadeath, then my cousin Tamer told me that he got an album for a drummer called Dave Weckl, I listened to him and I was shocked because he had a lot of variations in the same song and he is so creative with his grooves, from that moment on I decided to take drum lessons, to be able to play like him. My cousin recommended Mr. Muhammed Saa’d for me, he is the drummer of the Cairo opera house orchestra. I went to Muhammed and started my first drum lesson, but after 2 lessons Muhammed told me that we wouldn’t be able to keep going because he is very busy with his masters and studies, so I decided to keep going on my own with books & CDs.

4 years later, I went to Mr. Amr Yousef and he changed me completely. I started listening to Latin, Jazz and Fusion. I took 7 lesson with him. I don’t know why I used to take few sessions with every teacher. After this I went on my own way with more books, DVDs and CDs till this moment. One day, I went to watch Amr Yousef’s performance with Sahra, and I was attracted to the band’s trend with all its energy and variety in rhythms and styles, but due to some issues between Amr & Sahra, he left the band and he recommended me to them and of course I was very happy with this step because it would make me take out all my energy and ideas for the drumming. Now I am still with Sahra.

Why did you choose to play the drums?

First, it’s a gift from Allah. Second, I loved the beats and the rhythms more than anything because they gave me power more than any other instrument, but for sure I can’t deny that I am in love with the Guitar, Sax and Piano. Third, it looks so sexy on stage, haha, I am really in love with the view.

Ahmed, what genres of music do you play? and why did you choose these genres?

I have no specific kind of music but the kind I like playing most is Fusion because it lets me play different kind of beats and music at the same time, and I hate to be limited to one genre, because I like to play different variations in my music and in my drumming style. So let’s say world music, but sometimes when I’m home I like to play some death and thrash metal stuff for some bands like Lamb of God, Necrophagist, Decapitated, In Flames, Testament and Pantera. I know that I am crazy, but I really love this music.

What troubles did you face at the start? How did you face them?

Hm, my real troubles were all about drums, not my parents or my friends at all. Let’s begin with the sound: I wanted to get the sounds I heard from Dave Weckl especially and my favorite drummers in general, and for sure at that time I didn’t know anything about the kinds of woods or how to tune my drum kit, but after a while a very good friend of mine talked to me about these things, after that I got the Dave Weckl’s teaching video “Back To Basics.” On the other hand I had a very big problem with practicing and it was all about speed and goodness! I wanted to be a very fast drummer and very good too as quickly as possible, which was a very wrong idea of course, then I understood that I must take my time practicing and listening to many kinds of music to be that good, and I am working on it until now.

Tell me about the bands you played with, the bands you are currently in and the first band you ever played with.

Man that’s a lot, but okay let’s start with the first band I played in, it was “HELIUM” we covered lots of artists, like Malmsteen, Joe Satriani, Alice cooper, Annihilator and MEGADETH.

**Note: IT’S A CRAZY BAND.

I played with many local and international bands and projects. Let’s begin with the local bands: (Nagham Masry, The Riff band, Rashad Fahim, Salalem, Limousine, Sirens, and Forgotten Notes) and different international projects such as Music Matbakh, Darrell John Kennedy and Ruba Sakr who’s a singer from Jordan, and I have recorded an album with Yacoub, a bassist from Jordan.

My current bands are: Sahra, Eftikasat, The Percussion Show and The 19th band, who have a very strange formation, which is:

Guitars: Ousso and Marwan shaaban
Bass: Hameed Sabry.
Vocals: Amr Yehia, Adham Roshdy, Shehab and Shady Ahmed.
Drums: Me.

What was your feeling when you were on stage for the first time?

To be honest I don’t want to remember that day again in my life, (laughing) Look, it was a very strange feeling, I was so afraid, my legs couldn’t carry me, my blood pressure was dropping, but I can’t deny that this feeling went away after the second track we played, when the people began to interact with us, oh man that was a very hard day, thank God that day passed.

Did you ever expect that you would reach that level and be one of the best drummers in Egypt?

I didn’t expect this question from you, but anyway I always practice to be a good drummer, because I want to have my unique style in drumming, but to be honest I didn’t expect this position in this period of time, Thank God.

How do you see the music scene in Egypt in general and the rock and metal scene in particular?

I am so happy for the evolution in the music scene in general, we now have many bands in Egypt playing different styles of music, and of course I am so happy with the efforts in festivals like Cairo Jazz Festival and S.O.S. Music Festival, and no one can deny all the efforts done by El Sawy Culturewheel. As For the rock and metal scene, I don’t know how they’re going now because I am so far from it with the bands I am in now, but I remember the last 2 concerts I played with Sirens and I think the metal concerts are much better than before, the respect for the musicians is much better and the organization of the concerts is very good and the venues are better than the old ones.

Who is your drummer idol?

Actually, I have some idols in my life which I really learned a lot from, the first is (MIKE PORTNOY) the drummer for (DREAM THEATER), he is my rock drummer idol and as for the other styles of music like Fusion or Jazz or Latin they are (Dave Weckl), (Dennis Chambers) and (Marco Minnemann)

What are your plans for the future?

Hmm, my plans for music are to practice more and more to be a very good drummer and musician and I hope that I can play in any of the international festivals. As for my personal life, I want be a helpful person and to be successful in my work.

What would you like to say about the music scene and to your fans?

For the music scene : “I am very proud of the current bands in the scene, you guys are really awesome and never stop it, never ever, and keep on going with more stuff and more different kinds of music.”

For my fans: “I am very happy to play to people like you, and to anyone who wants to be a musician or a drummer, never give up and always remember that PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT.”

Rock Era interviewed Amr El Gendy to know more about the rock/metal scene there, read more here.

How did the band start, when and where?

The band started in 2005 when guitarist “Karim Kolaly” and drummer “Rafik El Naggar” had the passion to form a heavy metal band which has the taste of heavy music with the thrashy touch…They started at school with other members. Then the band had a lot of changes regarding their members till we settled on the current members.

As a band from Alex how you can describe the metal scene there and how do you connect with Cairo’s scene?

Amr: The metal scene is becoming recognizable now more and more and we have a very strong positive point that we all come together and support each other in every event whenever it is and wherever it is. About Cairo fans we have our fans and friends there among the other bands. We also connect with them through our YouTube channel

Do you suffer from the accusations towards the metal scene nowadays in media? How do you think we can solve this problem?

People think that we are aggressive because our music is heavy for ’em and we’ve always been treated as a second degree band because we play music which is different from what people listen to. We can solve this by inviting new people to our concerts and make them listen to our music, and we can help also by organizing charity events, well sponsored ones, to show the people our real image and prove to them that we are normal people who just play a different type of music.

What are the lyrical themes of your tracks?

Every song has its structure and it’s own issue. Our lyrical themes varies between personal issues such as in “Blame yourself and Broken hearts”, Social issues like talking about drugs in “Rattlesnake” and Global issues like “Death Machine” and some of our lyrics talk about AnoxiA as a band and our fans.

Do you guys perform covers in addition to originals, and can you give me the names of those covers?

Yeah, we perform covers but mainly we perform our own originals

Covers like:
