Valkyrie’s Bard — the project of composer, producer, tattooist, and novelist Sarah Miller — releases her new single, “Movement,” a dark pop anthem that builds from bare and intimate to full and cinematic, tracing the moment grief becomes fuel and people remember they are not alone. The track is the second single from her forthcoming album Drops in an Ocean and marks a powerful evolution from her acclaimed 2026 debut, Wake the Bones.

“Movement” arrives from a place of hard-won clarity. Sarah grew up studying classical piano and voice under her mother, Diane Miller — a Hall of Fame piano teacher who spent five decades in the field and administered Dorothy Taubman Seminars at Juilliard and Lincoln Center. Sarah left music at sixteen to pursue visual art, spending fifteen years as a tattooist and becoming a nationally recognized name in the craft, including a runner-up finish on Ink Master Season 2. She came back to songwriting in her late thirties, not as a career move, but as a necessity — when watching the world became too much to bear without somewhere to put it.

“Songwriting gave me an outlet,” she says, “and maybe a way to help others going through the same thing.”

That foundation — classical rigour, decades of life lived outside music, and the urgency of someone writing because they have to — is exactly what makes “Movement” land the way it does. The track moves from sparse and intimate to full and epic, with influences that live somewhere between Chappell Roan, Lady Gaga, and folk roots she can’t shake. It is a song about collective awakening: grief as instrument, voice as frequency, the moment isolation breaks and something larger begins.

“I think this one goes deeper,” Sarah says. “I’m just getting started and I have a lot more to say.”

The Australian rockers Reetoxa released their second album, “Soliloquy”, yesterday, March 23

Usually, I don’t like to write on each song separately in album reviews, as I prefer not to reflect on the reader’s opinion. But I cannot ignore tracks like “Reetoxa,” “Insatiable,” “Thrift Shop Dress,” “Akaroa,” “Gown,” among many other tracks.

Jason McKee and Reetoxa‘s vision for “Soliloquy” was one of introspection and evolution, capturing the essence of life’s complexities through music. Each track is a personal narrative, a window into his soul, where the orchestral elements serve to elevate the emotional depth of the album. From the evocative “Reetoxa,” which embodies the raw energy of the grunge era, to the poignant “Insatiable,” with its haunting melodies, the album is a testament to McKee’s prowess as a storyteller and musician. In “Akaroa,” the interplay between electric guitars and strings creates a dynamic tension that mirrors the song’s themes of longing and introspection.

The double album “Soliloquy” showcases a string orchestra from Budapest, Hungary. Upon exploring the album, you’ll discover that the Australian rockers draw significant inspiration from the 90s era, echoing the sounds of bands like Pearl Jam and Radiohead. This influence is beautifully fused with a contemporary orchestral flair, particularly evident in my favourite track, “Thrift Shop Dress.” It stands out with its infectious rhythm and lyrical wit, showcasing McKee’s ability to blend humour with heartfelt storytelling.

As you are already aware from our earlier features, ReeToxA is the musical endeavour of Melbourne-based singer-songwriter Jason McKee. His music combines elements of 1990s-inspired alternative rock, grunge, and contemporary pop, frequently characterised as having a “distinctly Aussie twist.”

Frankly, I am captivated by Jason McKee‘s emotive and powerful singing style. His music embodies a raw spirit that feels increasingly rare these days, which is evident throughout his 26-track album. Jason began penning Soliloquy in 1997, with only one bottle of inspiration remaining. After a pause during the pandemic, he chose to complete unfinished songs and reflect on his life experiences. Initially planned as a six-album project, he distilled it down to the finest 26 tracks that flowed seamlessly together. During the COVID pandemic, with the first album still unreleased, Jason shifted his focus to his second album. Surviving on cigarettes and coffee, he pushed himself to the limits, delving into various memories, fears, and reflections from his life.

The instrumentation in this piece is truly exceptional. I appreciate how everything is perfectly aligned. While I listen, I can feel the powerful rock groove of the bass and drums. Naturally, I’m captivated by the guitar’s performance, which truly elevates this record. Listeners will find themselves immersed in a realm where the past and present intertwine, crafting an experience that resonates deeply on various levels. The collaboration with the Budapest orchestra adds a refined texture to the tracks, transforming “Soliloquy” into not just an album but an auditory journey that seamlessly connects traditional rock with contemporary symphonic influences.

“Soliloquy” is more than just a collection of songs; it’s a reflection on the human condition, a soliloquy in the truest sense, where McKee lays bare his thoughts and experiences with unapologetic honesty. This album is a celebration of resilience, creativity, and the enduring power of music to connect us to our innermost selves.

12-track theatrical rock album launches with a full visual narrative

The Bay Area-based theatrical rock collective HeyBobby! releases song and video for “Function of Friction” on December 5. The song is from their debut, a concept album The Unclouding of Otilla Vanilla, that will drop in March 2026.

The Unclouding of Otilla Vanilla is a 12-track rock opera following Otilla Vanilla, a rising singer searching for meaning, connection, and identity. Written, performed, and produced entirely by humans, the project incorporates artificial intelligence to create characters and avatars that expand the album’s world visually. Every track will be accompanied by its own video episode.

See the videos for early singles “Anyone Else But Me” (October 2025) and “Big Shooter” HERE.

HeyBobby! introduces a new voice in rock ’n’ roll storytelling, blending cinematic rock with layered songwriting and immersive visuals. They write, perform, and produce every aspect of the project, grounding their work in human expression. Real instruments, real voices, real emotion. While the project embraces innovative tools such as artistic AI, it also makes space for traditional, human-crafted creative elements. The result is a hybrid art form where music, technology, and imagination work together to build characters and worlds.

In The Unclouding of Otilla Vanilla, the narrative centers on Otilla’s rise and unraveling as she attracts the attention of Vivienne St. Clair aka “Big Shooter,” a magnetic yet potentially dangerous music promoter. Pulled into a world that blurs the line between empowerment and exploitation. When asked about “Function of Friction,” the artist shared, “The Big Shooter has a few sexual lessons for the very innocent and naive Otilla”.

HeyBobby! invites audiences not just to hear an album, but to step inside a fully imagined universe where rock and theater collide.

“Until Forever Ends” opens like a quiet confession, Clinton Belcher’s voice trembling with vulnerability as he lays bare past shadows and unspoken fears. The intimacy of the whispered verses immediately draws you in, grounding the song in raw emotion before the orchestral sweep begins to rise. By the time the chorus hits, massive string swells and soaring guitars elevate the narrative, creating a cinematic landscape where the personal becomes epic.

Belcher’s lyrics trace love as a force of transformation and redemption. It’s not fleeting romance he explores, but the refuge and strength found in a bond that redefines life itself. Lines such as “I found my reason, my destiny in you” resonate as declarations of survival and devotion, capturing the tension between fragility and resilience that runs through the song. Every phrase carries the weight of a heart that has been tested and remade.

The production amplifies this duality. Close-mic’d, slightly raspy vocals convey intimacy, while orchestral and electric elements swell with sweeping grandeur. The dynamic key change toward the final chorus heightens the emotional stakes, while AI-assisted orchestration ensures the cinematic scale enhances rather than overshadows the song’s core authenticity. Even at its most expansive, the track remains rooted in the grit and honesty of Country Rock, giving Belcher’s voice full space to carry the story.

“Until Forever Ends” is both a modern power ballad and a statement of artistic vision. It fuses cinematic drama with grounded, heartfelt storytelling, producing a listening experience that is at once intimate and monumental. By the final note, you’re left with the echo of a heart fully open: resilient, transformed, and unwavering in its devotion..

Prog rock champion Christopher Sluka‘s eponymous band are about to release their third single, called “When The Genie’s Out” from upcoming album, Cautionary Yell, along with a video. The release date is key to the song, which commemorates one of the most controversial dates in human history, July 16th.

For those not familiar, July 16th, 1945 is the date on which the first ever atomic bomb test explosion occurred as part of the Trinity Project. Anyone with a rudimentary knowledge will know what happened from there: the bomb was deployed on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan and effectively ended World War II, but that wasn’t all. “When the Genie’s Out” explores the more long-standing repercussions of humanity having this newfound, world-ending power.

…the Genie was out of the bottle. Can’t put him back in the bottle when the genie’s out. It’s chaos and mayhem from here on out.

Self-described as one of Sluka‘s “most menacing songs,” the band use more than the lyrics discussing all the geopolitical chaos that’s happened since Trinity. The rich tones and heavy-handed composition that typify Sluka then themselves very well to the heaviness of the subject matter. Sluka and producer Alan Sanderson are even more heavy-handed with the production as well, adding discordant fusion elements to the musical base which underline the chaos and fear that are evocative of the theme. A truly progressive song, “When the Genie’s Out” pulls no punches and is meant to remind listeners of how we as a society got here.

The video for “When the Genie’s Out,” releasing the same date as the audio track, is equally evocative, Sluka and his band are superimposed over images of war and nuclear explosions, money, the Statue of Liberty and, finally, a cockroach, as it’s theorized that will be the only animal that would survive a nuclear holocaust.

Stark and strong, “When the Genie’s Out” shows that Cautionary Yell will have a serious message to go along with the heavier rock tones, just in case the first two singles, “Sunset Screamer” and “Saving It All” didn’t make it clear. Fans should be ready for a politically charged, prog rock journey once the album’s out. In the meantime, “When the Genie’s Out” will be out to get the wheels of thought and change turning.

Christopher Sluka is one of our favourite artists here in Rock Era Magazine. We are privileged to review his music and have an interview with him several times, which every time leaves us speechless because of his outstanding songwriting and musical output. Today, I will talk about his first sing latest single ‘Saving It All’ from the forthcoming Sluka album “Cautionary Yell.” Let’s discover.

The song starts with an impressive melodic intro that easily catches your ears and grabs your attention to listen to it all and even put it on repeat mode. I loved the music video a lot and how it combines the live recording process shooting along with impressive graphics. Usually, Sluka leans more toward bold topics, in ‘Saving It All’, draws inspiration from Georges Méliés’ “A Trip To The Moon,” Jules Verne’s “From The Earth To The Moon,” and likely Carl Sagan, offering bold lyricism and spacious music conveying hope against challenges. Although the instrumentation here is simple still it’s so unique I loved how Anna Eppink on Bass along with Michael Bedard on Drums gave a tight chemistry to the track. Definitely, the strings by Nico Hueso (Violin & Viola) and Erdis Maxhelaku (Cello) added a rich atmosphere to the whole track.

Sluka is known for his serious work and collaborations, his new album is under his label Steel Flower Music in San Diego. Amidst a chaotic world, his music offers calmness, beauty, and hope, providing a refreshing break from constant news updates.

Let’s not overlook the incredible production and engineering work by Alan Sanderson at Pacific Beat Recording Studio, which has brought us this iconic creation. And let’s not forget his inspiring motto: “Revel in your time with the horrors of your wonderful life.” – Sluka.

With 13 albums up his sleeves, singer/songwriter/composer Christopher Sluka dropped his latest single Christmas Tamales under his artist name Sluka via his own label Steel Flower Music. Sending season’s positive vibes everywhere, Sluka is bringing epic rock tunes back with Christmas Tamales, and today we’re gonna have a chat with him about it.

Welcome to Rock Era Magazine, really looking forward to talking with you!

As a multi-instrumentalist besides being a singer and a songwriter, what was your first instrument? and which do you consider your main or favorite one?

My first instrument was a trombone when I was 7, but then I really took to the guitar at the age of 8. After that I kept exploring other instruments like the violin, piano, drums, bass, and many more. But I’m not exceptional with any of them. It really comes down to me trying to express the sounds in my head. For guitars and keyboards my playing is usually right for the song while for other parts I prefer a better musician, to hear how they respond to the song.

What were your early influences? and which ones are still shaping your writing?

Like many musicians, The Beatles, mainly in that they demonstrated that just about anything is possible, that there really is no “formula” to writing songs, at least the ones that I like to listen to. I’m also often influenced by music I don’t like, in that what the artist is doing doesn’t take me to a place I want to be. I don’t want to name such artists. They are much more popular than Sluka. So there are many people who like their music, just not me. But they still influence me in guiding my mind in what not to do.

What are the challenges that came with launching your label Steel Flower Music?

My first three albums were with a major label and I was fortunate to have achieved enough success after I fulfilled that contract to set up my own label and publishing company with the help of many wonderful people. I went from receiving a 1% royalty to 100%, which allowed me a lot of independence without having to sell a lot of recordings. And I benefit from having a relatively small but signicant world wide audience.

How usually does your writing process go?

They appear in my head when I’m doing something else, like going on a long run. Then I try to reproduce and play the instruments I hear in my mind. And then when I can play the instruments well enough, I make demos for other musicians to then take it a level further for when we go into the studio. For the past 3 albums I’ve been working with producer/engineer Alan Sanderson at his Pacific Beat Recording Studio here in San Diego. He’s great and really helps us get the best performances.

Would you tell us more about Christmas Tamales and what influenced its writing?

It was Christmas two years ago and Richard Eppink, the brother of Anna Eppink, our bass player, and I were together. Richard was preparing Christmas dinner and he chose to make vegan Christmas Tamales, which I had never heard of. We were in a festive mood and the song just popped in my head. I sat down to the piano and there it was, so I recorded a simple “live version” on my phone. We were still busy with promoting the album “Figure It Out” so we didn’t have time to record it until this year. When we did record it, the main tracks (my lead vocal, drums, and bass) were done in one take. We have an in-studio video of that coming out on Christmas Eve.

How would you describe your sound?

I would agree with many others that it falls into the Alternative Progressive Rock with orchestral elements. What that really means it that just about anything goes. And there are certainly elements of reflection, emotional expression, and a desire for understanding of being human at this time in history.

Which song off your catalogue would you recommend for someone who wants to get into Sluka?

I would recommend “Happy in Your World.” It has all the elements of what I think many would say is that Sluka sound. I like all the songs, which is why they were recorded. But I understand not everyone has the time and interest to listen to more than a few, and would like a place to start.

What are your plans for 2024?

We are finishing the next album and hope to release the first single in January or February followed by the album release in the Spring. If it resonates with the world we will consider a festival tour.

Thanks so much for your time, I wish you the best of luck.

Thank you for your interest. It is very much appreciated.

With 13 albums up his sleeves, singer/songwriter/composer Christopher Sluka dropped his latest single Christmas Tamales under his artist name Sluka via his own label Steel Flower Music. Sending season’s positive vibes everywhere, Sluka is bringing epic rock tunes back with Christmas Tamales. Let me tell you more about it.

With bright melodies and an open sound, Sluka opened Christmas Tamales promising a cheerful fun tune ahead. Christmas Tamales has a powerful haunting sound that smoothly escalates and progresses into a bigger sound as it moves forward, matching its festive vibes and catchy direction. Sluka managed to put together a multi-layered solid tune with dynamic energetic writing that’s powered by big irresistible orchestrations in perfect arrangements, going hand-in-hand with some rocking elements, moving percussions, and powerfully mesmerizing vocals in a seamless mix with amazing layering that allowed each part to be fully heard and digested by the listeners, leaving them hooked and celebrating.

Christmas Tamales is a colorful festive tune by Sluka that shows his top-notch writing skills and well-knowledge of his sound and direction, as he steered this multi-layered melodic mix towards a bigger more complex sound while maintaining its cheerful mood uncompromised.

Kivanc Kilicer is one of the few who can make a great mix of electronic, orchestral/symphonic elements blended with rock/metal flavour. ‘Istanbul Sky’ is his latest, let’s find out the story below!

Usually, when I listen to new bands I lean to whom have some Eastern influenvces, maybe because I am already from Egypt, and it goes in my vein, not sure really, anyhow, I love the fusion movement that drives the rock/metal forces these days. Well, add to this an expireneced and professional artist who already had a great path with the Turkish band Element since 2007, and the past few years he has been releasing many successful rock/metal hits! ‘Istanbul Sky’ is a six-minute tune that you literally won’t feel the time through, actually, you will put it on repeat! I loved the engaging intro so much and how it’s melodic and symphonic in a very modern way.

I believe that Kilicer is trying to add his new flavour and years of experience to his music, which he did it perfectly! Well, I don’t find any negative points here really, we are talking about powerful vocals, catchy riffs and melodies, iconic chorus, insane soloing, plus, extraordinary Eastern flavour. Realy, well-done man! Check out ‘Istanbul Sky’ on his Spotify below, and don’t forget to check his other hits! Enjoy! 😉
