Doval is a singer and songwriter that’s based in Miami, Florida. ‘Endless Heartbreak’ is a song that Doval originally recorded in 2008 with a drum machine, only for him to be able to rediscover the tune recently, with the drummer from his band playing the drum part instead of the machine. The song borders on punk with its quick pace and machine-gun rhythms, and with its thin, clean, and chorused guitar riffs.

Loaded with Doval’s vocal charm and his distinctive delivery, the song’s sweet chords support his lyrics about the endless heartbreak that comes with a crush that ends up ignoring, or worse still, totally avoiding you. The fusion between the upbeat punk direction of the music and the clear pain of the words creates a chemistry that makes the song easy on the ears and on the mind, like the two elements balancing each other out, ending up with a sound that’s not as syrupy as the riffs imply, and not as dark as the picture the words paint.

More fun music from Patrick Doval, a name that is slowly but surely starting to become a reliable source of good songs that are delightfully light but meaningful, and simple but nuanced.

Floridian, based in Miami, Patrick Doval is an understated musical mastermind with an aesthetic so deceptively fresh that it genuinely caught me by surprise. Accompanied once more by drummer Pete Parada and his machine-gun beats, Doval takes the term Lo-fi to new realms. Doval resides in an area where the very simplicity of the elements in his work is where a great deal of the personality and the nuance is to be found. On the surface, ‘Back Home’ is a driving tune, full of high-octane riffage, chugging bass and guitar lines, howled vocals, and a simple production that is just so charmingly straightforward. Even the video, again masterminded by Doval, looks like a cut-and-paste job from an amateur photographer. But digging in -just a little beneath the surface- will reveal a fleshed-out world with a scenario, settings, and a whole artistic direction that’s based on looking stripped down and simple.

It struck me the moment the fantastic, flanger-heavy solo kicked in, and how the production just seemed to momentarily tighten up just beautifully, that Doval knows a lot more about his craft than the simplicity of the aesthetic shows. And it takes a lot of dedication to be as talented as that man and choose to display yourself in this goofy, lighthearted manner. Patrick Doval is a true breath of fresh air. In a world where musicians seem to enjoy waging battles of overproduction -on all fronts- comes Doval, who’s here just to rock out and put a smile on our faces.

With these simple words, singer/songwriter Patrick Doval described his latest single Back Home, released as a music video directed by Doval himself on the 12th of January, 2024, and dropping on streaming platforms on January 22nd, 2024. Patrick Doval teamed up with drummer Pete Parada “ex-The Offspring” on this single and music video as well, creating a blasting tune that announces him breaking into 2024 with full force. Let me tell you more about it.

Patrick Doval opened Back Home with a raw groovy riff and a catchy roller-coaster guitar melody, setting up the mood for a heavy, rocking tune to come. Doval’s vocal melody powerfully sets the tone for Back Home’s melodic sound, while he’s laying some killer guitar work and harmonics boosting the song’s energy and keeping the listeners hooked and entertained. Patrick Doval‘s deep roots in rock n roll and bluesy influences shine brightly through the song’s guitar hero soloing moments, and in the way he managed to put together such an energetic structure with an irresistible groove and dynamic twists and turns that maintained the energy levels till the end.

Back Home is a super catchy tune with eargasmic melodies and piercing guitars by Patrick Doval, showing his seasoned writing and significantly streaming flow all within an extremely entertaining structure with entertaining twists and turns. Looking forward to more from Patrick Doval, keep on rocking. Cheers!
