Stepping away from the folk-rock and driving alt-indie textures of their previous work, Sunshine & Gasoline sees the band leaning heavily into an irresistible, guitar-driven neo-reggae groove. It is an infectious, open-road anthem built specifically for long summer drives and pure camaraderie with good friends.

Trading the synthesizers of yesteryear for breezy, human-played production, Sunshine & Gasoline effortlessly bridges the gap between the relaxed, syncopated pocket of The Elovaters and the gritty, acoustic-electronic hybrid pop of Milky Chance. The track hits the listener like an instant shot of warm weather, kicking off with an inviting, rhythmic guitar scratch before swelling into a full-band chorus destined for festival sing-alongs.

In their place: a guitar-driven neo-reggae groove, built for open roads and warm weather, sitting somewhere between The Elovaters’ relaxed pocket and Milky Chance’s acoustic-electronic hybrid pop. It’s the first of three planned singles this year, with an atmospheric original called “Lisboa” and a reimagined cover of The Human League’s “Fascination” both teased to follow.

The song borders on cheesy sometimes, but that’s almost the point. I can imagine this being the song that plays in a movie where a cynical character reluctantly, eventually gives in and sings it alongside their happy-go-lucky friends. It’s a road-trip adventure kind of song and hits all the marks, and doesn’t really reinvent anything and isn’t aiming to be unique – the focus here is to embrace the present moment and let go of our past regrets, let’s just be grateful for what we have and enjoy it to the fullest. Honestly, it’s a message that we sorely need these days.

Franklin Gotham know what they’re going for here, and they commit to it without irony, which is the only way a song like this actually works. “Sunshine & Gasoline” isn’t trying to be anyone’s favorite deep cut – it’s trying to be the song that plays with the windows down, and on that count, it succeeds completely. Two more singles are on the way, and on this evidence, the band’s summer is shaping up nicely.

There’s a quiet turbulence running through River, the latest release by The Blue Marmalades. It’s not the kind of unrest that screams; it moves beneath the surface: measured, steady, and deeply human. The track drifts between surrender and resurgence, flowing with an emotional ambiguity that feels both ancient and raw.

Rooted in a fusion of psychedelic stoner and blues rock, River carries a kind of molten rhythm that shifts as it unfolds. Guitars stretch and coil with hazy intensity, while the bass anchors the current with warmth and gravity. The drumming flows like heartbeat and thunder all at once, giving the song a pulse that feels alive, unpredictable, and hypnotic. Nothing about it feels staged; the music breathes in its own time, as though following the rhythm of something elemental.

Yet beneath its liquid calm, fire flickers; a quiet force that burns through the haze, hinting at collapse and renewal in equal measure. The song captures that strange balance between letting go and still believing in what’s ahead. It never settles into one mood; it evolves, melts, rebuilds, and rises again.

By its end, River doesn’t offer resolution so much as revelation. It turns the act of drifting into something sacred, a meditation on instability and rebirth. The Blue Marmalades don’t simply play their instruments, they channel them, turning sound into motion, unrest into form, and uncertainty into a kind of peace only found in the flow..

I tend to gravitate towards music that incorporates fusion in its composition. Typically, I discover this blend between two main styles. However, I was truly impressed when I came across Ray Barnard’s latest album, which beautifully combines elements of soul, reggae, R&B, and even rock, all seamlessly intertwined. Let’s explore this further below.

If you visit Ray Barnard‘s website, you’ll be captivated by his stunning artistic portfolio, which clearly showcases his mastery as a seasoned musician. His latest album, And The Horse You Rode In On, features ten tracks and was released just a month ago. The singing style maintains a vintage quality that I truly appreciate, transporting me back in time, especially with the music enhancing that experience. While I typically prefer not to discuss each track individually to avoid influencing listeners, I thoroughly enjoyed every piece, each possessing its own unique characteristics.

The music is masterfully created. Ray has a remarkable talent for selecting his collaborators. This skill likely stems from his background as a rock musician, where he led the rock band, The Copperheads.

This rich blend of influences and partnerships has undoubtedly shaped Barnard’s musical path, adding a depth and authenticity that truly connects with listeners. His knack for effortlessly blending various genres showcases his versatility and deep appreciation for the universal language of music.

In And The Horse You Rode In On, Barnard doesn’t just create songs; he crafts experiences. Each track invites listeners to embark on a sonic adventure, exploring themes of identity, love, and spirituality with a refreshing honesty and vulnerability. The album’s texture is further enriched by the live rhythm tracks, which lend an organic feel that breathes life into the music, making it feel both timeless and immediate.

As I mentioned earlier, I prefer not to discuss each track in detail, but I truly enjoyed several of them, and I was pleasantly surprised to see they were included in the press kit. Notably, “Scufflin’” emphasizes that self-preservation is rooted in community, while “Closer To God” serves as a gospel piece touching on personal spirituality and natural sanctuaries. “Pistol Pete” is an incredible and cheerful music piece that takes you back in time to the golden era. Additionally, “Greenlight” is a heartfelt tribute to a girl who embodies freedom and adventure; it actually reminds me of a friend. Lyrical themes should reflect our lives. In my opinion, this sets apart a veteran artist like Ray Barnard from the newcomers I’ve been listening to recently, who often choose topics at random.

At last, for both long-time fans and new listeners, this album is a compelling addition to Barnard’s impressive body of work, offering something for everyone to connect with and enjoy.
Oreaganomics is an art-rock band hailing from Lincoln, but their music encompasses much more than just that genre. Their newest single, “Everything is Legal,” debuted on February 6, 2025. Let’s dive in and share more details below.

Oreaganomics is one of those bands recognized for their protest music, tackling contemporary issues that resonate with global audiences and capturing the essence of today’s world. The music is incredibly melodic and delightfully catchy. I absolutely LOVE THE VOCALS! The expressive singing style is undoubtedly one of the standout features that makes this track so appealing. I really enjoy the groovy neo-soul and reggae influences, which create a smooth, enjoyable listening experience that resonates with both rock and pop, all showcased in a masterfully crafted piece.

The title itself reflects the theme of the track, as the band stated in their press kit: “It’s about how everything is legal nowadays.” However, when you pause to consider this, don’t you notice how many things are becoming legal for those who want to advance their own agendas? For instance, a decade ago, many things were prohibited, but now they have been legalized without restrictions.

Incorporating a blend of sharp wit and poignant commentary, “Everything is Legal” captures the essence of Oreaganomics‘ mission to challenge the status quo. The track dives into themes of unchecked freedoms and the blurred lines between right and wrong in today’s society. With each beat and verse, Oreaganomics invites listeners to question the moral fabric of modern life and consider the consequences of a world where ethical boundaries are continually pushed.

Their ability to weave thought-provoking narratives with infectious melodies creates an engaging listening experience that resonates with audiences across the globe. Whether it’s the haunting guitar riffs or the commanding vocals, every element of the song works in harmony to underscore its powerful message. As Oreaganomics continues to push the envelope, they not only entertain but also inspire a dialogue about the world we live in and the direction it is heading.

For lovers of the chill rhythm and succulent vibes of modern reggae, GrooveGalore Muzik’s latest album will be an absolute treasure. 15 covers of renowned and loved classic rock anthems rearranged and rethought to fit into the most chill and inventive of reggae beats, My Reggae Rockin Journey is an entertaining and healthy offering.

Based in Jamaica’s Montego Bay, it is safe to say that the music on this album is appropriately reggae, hailing from the genre’s historic cradle. Featuring fantastic guitar input from Rudy Valentino Jr. alongside project founder Paul Kastick’s voice, the covers on this album are basically structured to fit into the traditional reggae-related beats, giving them exceptionally neat production that is done in house, for results that are invigorating and greatly rewarding.

Not all the covers featured on the album could be contained within the tight framework of reggae, with some of them working better than others. Def Leppard’s ‘Breathe a Sigh’ makes for a gorgeous reggae tune, while Poison’s ‘Every Rose Has Its Thorn’ could not totally relinquish its 80s glam rock roots. The album’s lead single and namesake, Whitesnake’s ‘Here I Go Again’, sounds like a beautiful pop tune that has always been reggae-infused. GrooveGalore’s treatment of the legendary rock anthem is commendable, and the result is a beautifully balanced cover that’s true to the song’s timeless melodies, as well as to reggae’s immediately distinctive stylistic flairs.

This album’s mixes and artistic interpretations of infamous hard rock hits from the 80s and 90s display the fantastic musical capabilities of GrooveGalore Muzik. A powerhouse collective and a brilliant producer, the songs here are lush and rich with layers and parts, and the mixes are wholesome and energizing. Listening to the album is a fantastic experience that can only be topped by going back and rediscovering all the wonderful songs that are so lovingly covered on it.

You read that right, A PRE-MIX! This is a remix release that happens to be before the official release of the actual song. Who thought that this is even a thing! We’d say that this is something only real creatives like 9 o’clock Nasty would do!

The band’s latest pre-mix instantly captivates you with its slip-hit beats, a jiggly bass, and an interesting atmosphere to which you cannot help but vibe to. You can right on spot and feel the post punk cool and chill kind of delivery paired up with this dark and detached vibe; yet, you are still interested and enjoying this hip and subtle cool feel.

One of the most interesting elements in this pre-mix is the use of guitar. We subtly get a reggae kind of feeling thanks to those rhythmic reggae snippets. It sure gives the groove a unique sound and highlights the band’s ability to uniquely and skillfully blend different styles together without losing that post-punk feel.

This pre-mix is surely a great tease to the actual track which is supposed to be released next September. Keep 9 O’clock Nasty on your musical radar, peeps!

Bob Marley is a name that will always be remembered in the music industry. American singer-songwriter Chris Timbers and his band paid tribute to the iconic artist by covering one of his famous hits, “Is This Love.” Let’s discover more.

I usually find it unfair to compare an original track with a cover version, yet we tend to do it subconsciously. Chris Timbers‘ rendition of “Is This Love” has its own distinct charm. The emotional and powerful vocals, combined with the precise rhythm and beats, truly make it iconic. Given that Bob Marley’s “Is This Love” is one of his most covered songs, I genuinely appreciate Chris’s version. The beauty of this track lies in its reggae atmosphere fused with a rock music structure. While listening to this rendition, I felt this unique blend, which adds to its iconic status. Chris shared his reasons for choosing this track:

“I’ve always wanted to cover a Bob Marley song. He has many great tunes, but this one truly resonated with me when I decided to do a cover. I believe it captures the essence of what Marley stood for. In today’s world, filled with division, much like Jamaica during Marley’s peak, he wrote songs promoting unity, positive vibes, and love. Lines like ‘until the color of a man’s skin is of no more significance than the color of his eyes’ from ‘War’ by Bob Marley. With the recent movie about Bob Marley, I thought it was the right time to release a song of his that carries a message of love. Love was at the core of everything Marley did. It was a delight to study the track and learn those guitar parts. The recording features me on all guitars and lead vocals, Mike Echols on bass and backing vocals, Olaolu Ajibade on drums, and Jason Eaglin on keys. We recorded the entire song remotely from our home studios. I hope you enjoy my take on Bob Marley’s ‘Is This Love’.”

Chris Timbers, a musician, transitioned from band work to a solo career after facing personal struggles. His music blends blues, roots, jazz, and rock influences. He reconnected with his Native American heritage, leading to a spiritual awakening and creative output. The Chris Timbers Band‘s music can be found on Facebook, Spotify, Amazon, and Soundcloud.

In 2023, Mellohoney began recording their debut EP Genuine People with producer Dave Schiffman (PUP, NOBRO, The OBMGs) at Dreamhouse Studios in Toronto. The result was the most energetic, and impactful musical experience both live and recorded for the band. 2024 will see the album release of Genuine People, through which the band never shies away from turning down, as much as they like to crank it up.

The pair’s music centers around post-punk, but often will veer into oncoming traffic, colliding with rock, ska, hip-hop, folk, and reggae, creating a mix that will have your head turning toward the sound of screeching tires to catch a glimpse of the maniacs behind the wheel.

Latest single, “Coward,” was written with “a sense of frustration and disillusionment with the political system, particularly with politicians and the government. A desire for change and accountability.”

The album consists of five songs and a total of 12 minutes, but as they say “good things come in small packages”. This fusion of Indie/Pop, Rhythm and Blues also offer interesting hints of R&B, experimental psychedelia, Reggae/ Dub beats, and even some Soul.

‘Soups and Starters’ is the debut EP from ‘Step Into The Kitchen’, released this year on February 2022.

The song ‘A Long Peak at the Script’ is this loud, resonant kaleidoscopic mixture of sounds and vocals, whereas ‘Pan or Grittle’ is a laid-back reggae, soul tune with bits of a saxo, vocals and techno sounds.

The Portland-based band makes it clear that they’ve cooked up something unique and take music cuisine to a whole new level through their fusion style.

The collection of nifty, boogie sonic songs uses a collection of instruments that turn out into this rhapsodic, euphoric album that brings in an early summer.
