The song borders on cheesy sometimes, but that’s almost the point. I can imagine this being the song that plays in a movie where a cynical character reluctantly, eventually gives in and sings it alongside their happy-go-lucky friends. It’s a road-trip adventure kind of song and hits all the marks, and doesn’t really reinvent anything and isn’t aiming to be unique – the focus here is to embrace the present moment and let go of our past regrets, let’s just be grateful for what we have and enjoy it to the fullest. Honestly, it’s a message that we sorely need these days.

Franklin Gotham know what they’re going for here, and they commit to it without irony, which is the only way a song like this actually works. “Sunshine & Gasoline” isn’t trying to be anyone’s favorite deep cut – it’s trying to be the song that plays with the windows down, and on that count, it succeeds completely. Two more singles are on the way, and on this evidence, the band’s summer is shaping up nicely.

Rooted in a fusion of psychedelic stoner and blues rock, River carries a kind of molten rhythm that shifts as it unfolds. Guitars stretch and coil with hazy intensity, while the bass anchors the current with warmth and gravity. The drumming flows like heartbeat and thunder all at once, giving the song a pulse that feels alive, unpredictable, and hypnotic. Nothing about it feels staged; the music breathes in its own time, as though following the rhythm of something elemental.

Yet beneath its liquid calm, fire flickers; a quiet force that burns through the haze, hinting at collapse and renewal in equal measure. The song captures that strange balance between letting go and still believing in what’s ahead. It never settles into one mood; it evolves, melts, rebuilds, and rises again.

By its end, River doesn’t offer resolution so much as revelation. It turns the act of drifting into something sacred, a meditation on instability and rebirth. I tend to gravitate towards music that incorporates fusion in its composition. Typically, I discover this blend between two main styles. However, I was truly impressed when I came across Ray Barnard’s latest album, which beautifully combines elements of soul, reggae, R&B, and even rock, all seamlessly intertwined. Oreaganomics is an art-rock band hailing from Lincoln, but their music encompasses much more than just that genre. Their newest single, “Everything is Legal,” debuted on February 6, 2025. Let’s dive in and share more details below.

Based in Jamaica’s Montego Bay, it is safe to say that the music on this album is appropriately reggae, hailing from the genre’s historic cradle. Featuring fantastic guitar input from Rudy Valentino Jr. alongside project founder Paul Kastick’s voice, the covers on this album are basically structured to fit into the traditional reggae-related beats, giving them exceptionally neat production that is done in house, for results that are invigorating and greatly rewarding.

Not all the covers featured on the album could be contained within the tight framework of reggae, with some of them working better than others. Def Leppard’s ‘Breathe a Sigh’ makes for a gorgeous reggae tune, while Poison’s ‘Every Rose Has Its Thorn’ could not totally relinquish its 80s glam rock roots. The album’s lead single and namesake, Whitesnake’s ‘Here I Go Again’, sounds like a beautiful pop tune that has always been reggae-infused. GrooveGalore’s treatment of the legendary rock anthem is commendable, and the result is a beautifully balanced cover that’s true to the song’s timeless melodies, as well as to reggae’s immediately distinctive stylistic flairs.

This album’s mixes and artistic interpretations of infamous hard rock hits from the 80s and 90s display the fantastic musical capabilities of GrooveGalore Muzik. A powerhouse collective and a brilliant producer, the songs here are lush and rich with layers and parts, and the mixes are wholesome and energizing. Listening to the album is a fantastic experience that can only be topped by going back and rediscovering all the wonderful songs that are so lovingly covered on it.

The band’s latest pre-mix instantly captivates you with its slip-hit beats, a jiggly bass, and an interesting atmosphere to which you cannot help but vibe to. You can right on spot and feel the post punk cool and chill kind of delivery paired up with this dark and detached vibe; yet, you are still interested and enjoying this hip and subtle cool feel. 

One of the most interesting elements in this pre-mix is the use of guitar. We subtly get a reggae kind of feeling thanks to those rhythmic reggae snippets. It sure gives the groove a unique sound and highlights the band’s ability to uniquely and skillfully blend different styles together without losing that post-punk feel.

In 2023, Mellohoney began recording their debut EP Genuine People with producer Dave Schiffman (PUP, NOBRO, The OBMGs) at Dreamhouse Studios in Toronto. The result was the most energetic, and impactful musical experience both live and recorded for the band. 2024 will see the album release of Genuine People, through which the band never shies away from turning down, as much as they like to crank it up.

The pair’s music centers around post-punk, but often will veer into oncoming traffic, colliding with rock, ska, hip-hop, folk, and reggae, creating a mix that will have your head turning toward the sound of screeching tires to catch a glimpse of the maniacs behind the wheel.

Latest single, “Coward,” was written with “a sense of frustration and disillusionment with the political system, particularly with politicians and the government. A desire for change and accountability.”
