The Sea at Midnight are turning their environmental activism into songs, and they bring forth a sound that’s perfectly fitting for the topic with their larger-than-life grooves, lush reverbs, and hopeful, yet desolate, soundscapes.

‘Wait For Rain’ can be safely located within the realms of new wave and indie rock with its present and soaring synth lead line that plays instantly immersive melodies. The song’s composition, balanced between hope and hopelessness with its incessant toying between major and minor tonalities creates a palpable tension that drives the song forward, alongside a steady and dynamic drum groove, ‘Wait For Rain’ is a song that moves forward with unquestionable confidence.

Musically, ‘Burning’ is large and bold, demanding as much attention and displaying as much presence as the topic it puts forth. With a simple rhythm, a common time, slow-to-mid tempo groove, and a pair of familiar, seesawing chords, the composition of ‘Burning’ does not put intricacy on the top of its list of priorities. However, the urgent attitude to the yelled, memorable vocal melodies, the direct lyrics, the massive waves of granular and dusty pads, the immensely heavy snare hits, and the general gravity of all the performances all make for a listen that’s exquisitely balanced. ‘Burning’, simple as it might seem at first, is an emotionally hefty piece of music.

The Sea at Midnight are bringing us a song that’s not short of being one of the year’s most involved and profound pieces of indie rock and shoegaze. With a message and a set of deliveries that easily elevate the song, ‘Burning’ is an unforgettable plea for change.

I have listened to the album several times and I literally enjoyed every element indeed. Vince Grant the songwriter from Los Angeles and the mastermind behind The Sea At Midnight did a great to transfer what’s in his mind into notes and words. Each track over here delivers diversity and EARgasm, but my favorites were ‘Melancholia,’ and ‘Medicine.’ The album was produced by Chris King of Cold Showers with drum programming by Brandon Pierce of Glaare which truly did a great job indeed.

Do you know what really attracts this album? The general atmosphere that Vince did, especially when you listen to all tracks you will feel as what I said at the beginning of my review, on the beach and looking to the sea waves at midnight. Especially that his singing style is very emotive and expresses such a state of mind perfectly. It’s very important to bad to good, to avoid depression and pain into beauty, and this is what Vince Grant did perfectly by simply taking you from the dark to light and ignore pain and sorrow. Sometimes prolonged speech loses the beauty of art, and so I will let you listen, also, see Vince Grant’s perfect painting below!
