Alwyn Morrison returns with a brand new single, “Turn All The Lights On” This is one of those tracks that, on paper, shouldn’t work as well as it does, but it absolutely does. It’s an anthem that somehow manages to be both reflective and explosive, and that contradiction is exactly what makes pop-rock so exciting.
The song kicks off from a place of raw honesty. Morrison asks himself how one even writes a love song when your heart is in pieces. The answer isn’t “by sinking into sadness” like it is typically. He actually flips that vulnerability into something unexpectedly fun. The nods to Britney and Whitney here aren’t just for show; they’re a real reflection of how we deal with heartbreak in the real world. Very relatable in my opinion, and manages to walk the line but never fully crosses into cheesy territory.
Musically, Morrison and his team really nail the balance here. Harlan Hodges adds a layer of depth with his piano, and Michael Carey’s electric guitar solo after the bridge adds a boost of power. The production gives every element space to shine while keeping that punchy pop-punk energy nice and high.
“Turn All The Lights On” is from Alwyn Morrison‘s debut EP “Heartsplit,” and if it’s anything to go by, he’s found that sweet spot where raw emotion meets irresistible hooks. This is the kind of song that makes you want to turn all the lights on (literally) and dance your way through whatever life throws at you. Definitely one to keep on repeat.
