Moroccan death metal band Sakadoya released “Burn Bright My Dear” on December 19th, Chapter II from their upcoming concept album The Will. The band operates out of Settat and blends heaviness with cinematic atmosphere and conceptual storytelling. The track was written and performed by Sakadoya, recorded, mixed, and mastered by Hicham Hamzi at Sakadoya Studios in Settat, with artwork by H-Hich Design. The concept follows an ancient force called The Will, Nature’s primal consciousness, that awakens when Earth can no longer handle greed and destruction. The Will chooses a select few individuals to become its soldiers on earth, but they have to undergo a transformation first. “Burn Bright My Dear” captures this transformation moment.

In terms of narrative structure, this song is exceptional, serving the overall story arc of the band’s concept album, “The Will,” in a remarkable way. The pure souls chosen by this ancient entity to undergo a violent rebirth in order to become the earth’s saviors are a classic example of the “Hero’s journey.” The violence and difficulty of said journey is embodied in the music beautifully. The journey ends with our heroes transcending humanity to become beings of light, symbolizing their cleanliness and their ascension into becoming humanity’s saviors. This is reflected musically by the dynamics reaching a crescendo and then crashing down into a beautiful acoustic section to end the song on a somber moment.

Sakadoya draws from fantasy, myth, and post-collapse imagery to create a metal universe that’s both brutal and immersive. For a band working out of Morocco’s underground scene, they’re crafting something ambitious that goes beyond typical death metal brutality. Worth keeping on your radar as The Will unfolds.
