With a steady piano rhythm that channels Elton John, The Verve, and Elbow all into one, Brett Wayne Lee’s latest single ‘Fade’ is a tantalizing piece of Britpop that’s stylish, gorgeous, and effortlessly charismatic.

Brett Wayne Lee is a singer and songwriter based in the town on Leigh in Lancashire, England. With an ironic backstory, Lee belongs to a family of miners and factory workers who couldn’t afford to buy instruments, and having wanted a guitar since he was 8, he finally got his first guitar at 13, only for it to get stolen a mere 6 months later. Brett joined the Royal Marine Commandos at 19, and a year later her got himself his first decent guitar and was inspired by Britpop and 90s pop, he went into business.

The seasoned veteran, both on the guitars and with the Marines, has written a touching song with ‘Fade’. The stirring and rhythmic piano chords that open up the song are familiar and easy going, but blended with Lee’s distinctive nasal delivery, they are given a renewed purpose and a sense of adventure. The strings that are introduced right alongside the stormy groove elevate the song’s latter half, especially with the high vocal harmonies that hit later on.

‘Fade’ has a masterfully executed build-up that can only be a product of a craftsman who is in full control of all aspects of his work. ‘Fade’ is a great introduction to the sonic worlds of Brett Wayne Lee.
