A lighthearted pop anthem with an exuding charm and a brooding charisma, ‘Waiting for a Train’ is a song that Swedish singer and songwriter Mats Dernand kept pushing aside for years and finally decided to go on and record it, for the better of everyone involved, especially us listeners.

Based in Orebro, Mats Dernand is a pop musician with a really distinctive sound on ‘Waiting for a Train’, his latest single. This pop cut is bustling, emotionally charged, cute, and exciting, all in a short and sweet package that is just very hard to dislike. From its succulent groove, great instrumental tracks, and quirky, wonderful palette of instruments, ‘Waiting for a Train’ easily stands out among its peers.

Things I couldn’t not pay attention to while listening to this crisp and clean-sounding cut include the pristine clarity of the drums, specifically the juicy and punchy snare, the richness of the overdrive in the light funk rock-infused guitar riffs, the bombastic bass sound, and the harmonica, which is wondrously utilized and so gorgeously placed in the mix that it effortlessly elevates the whole experience. The song itself, with its soulful chord changes and emotive melodies, and the subtle, confident nature of its unerring groove, are an absolute pop joy to behold.

‘Waiting for a Train’ is a song I am personally glad Mats Dernand finally got to record and release. a peppy and fun pop tune with loads of charm and a sophisticated sound that got me hooked onto Dernand’s attractive songwriting and his sharp ears for arranging.
