Orlando’s Jordan Seven brings an ageless lyrical soul and wisdom, a molotov cocktail voice brimming with passion, and a fully integrated vision, a fusion of Indie and Classic Rock on his immersive new album “Seven”. It’s immediately apparent that Jordan’s songwriting approach is pervaded by a depth of understanding and care for the potential in communicating genuine emotion, vulnerability and rallying cry for both him and the listener alike. His slightly operatic vibrato and impassioned vocal delivery echo modern indie rock acts like Rival Sons and My Morning Jacket, while bowing to classic rock and metal artists like Led Zeppelin, David Bowie and Cheap Trick. There is mythos and a depth of honor in this music, but most of all an earnest ride through the far perimeters of the Universal mind.
The pandemic’s isolation sparked his debut album, 7, a testament to his resilience and tough, hopeful spirit. Tracks like “Zephyr Girl,” and “Solid Ground” blend poignant, often melancholic lyrics with driving riffs, showcasing his versatility as he plays all instruments except drums, performed by friend and collaborator Chris Moore, a seasoned touring drummer. After significant struggles and traumas in life, 7 is at once battle-worn and exudes a powerful spirit, yet most of all communicates deep resilience, hope and a lightness of spirit. This could be Jordan’s greatest artistic gift. His hope is earned honestly, too. Propelled out of a suburban existence by a desire for more, he struggled for years to cut his own path and to find artistic kindred souls. Years-long detours through a professional career, corporate life, and the cover band circuit finally led him to a creative community and fulfilling family life in Orlando, FL. It also gave him the grit and determination to keep going in the face of setbacks and personal tragedy.
“I feel that many people yearn for more engaging and thoughtful music. I try to write songs that are catchy and enjoyable, but which offer something more meaningful for those who want to delve deeper.
People can get caught up in their fears and frustrations, and lose sight of the precious things that make life worth living. My songs are a gentle reminder to stay connected to what truly matters.
No matter what your system of beliefs, it’s crucial to find a foundation that motivates you to strive for your higher nature.”
“Walking deserted streets during the pandemic with my late dog, “Honor”, helped me find the authentic voice that I had been searching for as a musician. His resolute, forward motion during those somber nights helped inspire me to create a heartfelt album of songs about perseverance, and finding beauty and hope in the face of life’s challenges.”
Over ten songs, 7 tells a story of love gained and lost, hardships faced and conquered, a world brought to submision and then renewed. In “A New Morning,” Seven focuses on our collective anxieties about the future, wondering “How can the sunshine come out from hiding when all our lives are in disarray? And then provides his optimistic conrrast with /Well I see blue roses and tourmaline sky…” the same optimism in the face of anxiety veers to the personal in “Believe in Me,” where he stares down the gap between who he is and who he could be, lamenting “Can’t stop thinking about what might have become of me/Can you really love a man you’ve never seen?/I want to be my best for you and not this in between.” Through it all, his thread of hope refuses to fray, unflinching in his conviction that in dark times, love still matters. This makes 7 into not just an ultra-listenable album, but a rallying cry of hope from an artist who has learned that when crisis strikes, sometimes all you can do is keep putting one foot in front of the other and moving forward. At a moment when humanity desperately needs a soundtrack to help us light a path through the darkness, it couldn’t be more timely.
