These days, it’s uncommon to see bands interested in creating physical releases, isn’t it? But what if I told you that there’s a special re-release in the works – a limited edition box set known among fans as “the fan club edition.” That’s right! The American rock band War Gods of the Deep has partnered with Astro Dragon Records to unveil a second run of their debut album, Action Space Battle. Let’s delve into the story behind the album and explore it further.
The 10-track album promises a nostalgic journey back in time, reminiscent of the musical brilliance from three decades ago. Featuring hits from iconic bands like Queen, Metallica, Def Leppard, Van Halen, and more, imagine all these legends coming together in one band. The marketing strategy behind the re-release of “Action Space Battle” was brilliantly executed by the band and record label. Initially launched in September 2019 as the “fan club edition” with only 666 boxed collector’s items, it quickly sold out within eight months. Due to popular demand, an additional 667 copies were authorized for production and exclusively sold on the band’s website.
It’s difficult to pick a favorite track because each one has its unique charm. The emotional vocals, melodic guitar riffs, impressive lead lick, and solid bass/drums foundation all contributed to an amazing result. Noteworthy is how it blends the essence of the past with a contemporary twist, creating an iconic and well-crafted musical piece.
In 2024, I’ve delved into numerous heavy metal releases from the US, particularly those with an 80’s influence. Among them, ‘Action Space Battle’ truly stands out. What sets it apart? Unlike many bands whose albums can feel repetitive with tracks blending together, War Gods of the Deep maintain a distinct and professional edge. They skillfully engage their fans with fresh concepts in each track while honoring an old-school vibe. I am eagerly anticipating their next release!
