The UK-based solo metal artist Anthony Ellis has unveiled his latest album, Crisis Catalyst, marking his debut under the moniker Ashes of Reason. This album is sure to captivate any metal enthusiast, offering a rich blend of styles and influences from various eras. Let’s dive in!
The ten-track album is scheduled for release on July 4th. I found the tracks to be exceptionally well-crafted, featuring powerful vocals that evoke deep emotions. Upon further exploration, you will be amazed by the seamless blend of various musical styles. For instance, fans of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, particularly Iron Maiden, will recognise its influence in the song structures and melodic vocal lines. The bass and drums serve as the backbone of the music, playing a crucial and impressive role. Additionally, you’ll discover elements of thrash, power, and progressive genres throughout the album. It truly feels like experiencing multiple bands in one, all harmoniously intertwined.
Honestly, I typically refrain from discussing each track individually in my album reviews, but in this case, I truly loved all of them. I appreciated the polished production, and I must admit that my favourite track is the title piece, Crisis Catalyst.
Anthony Ellis has skillfully crafted an album that not only showcases his technical prowess but also his ability to weave a compelling story through music. I loved in a track like “Screaming at the Void” the music takes you into a journey into your own soul, in fact, I felt the music itself with the acoustic begning and then the heavy transition it is like takes me on a ocean of waves and I am just digging deeper into on my soul. Well done, Anthony. I rarely feel this, indeed. In my view, the album’s dynamic range from blistering riffs to haunting melodies reflects the complexity of life itself.
The juxtaposition of heavy riffs with melodic interludes provides a dynamic listening experience that mirrors the turbulence and tranquillity of life itself. The album’s lyrical content delves deep into the human psyche, offering reflections on identity, purpose, and the relentless pursuit of meaning amidst the noise of the world.

Once again, I want to emphasise how much I appreciate Anthony Ellis’s talent for creating songs that resonate both emotionally and intellectually—it’s truly admirable. Each track unfolds like a chapter in this musical odyssey, featuring remarkable moments that showcase Ellis’s evolution as a musician and storyteller. From the intricate guitar solos that evoke deep feelings to the energetic rhythms that drive with urgency, “Crisis Catalyst” exemplifies the power of music to inspire and provoke reflection. This album is bound to leave a lasting impact on every listener, encouraging them to carve out their own path amid life’s chaos.
In essence, “Crisis Catalyst” is more than just an album; it’s an exploration of the soul, a call to action, and a reminder of the transformative power of music. Whether you’re a fan of intricate guitar work, powerful vocals, or thought-provoking lyrics, this album offers something for everyone, leaving a lasting impact long after the final note has faded.
