Based in Melbourne, Australia, Razor Burn is a young, but rapidly progressing band. A duo, Luke and Ethan, make up Razor Burn. With a catalogue of over 50 songs and an album coming up, the duo evidently live and breathe music, shown most clearly in their latest single, “Avow”, released earlier this year in March.

With a clear love for melodic punk rock, the single deeply embraces the showiest characteristics in the genre, with prominent guitar riffs and big vocals. Starting with a slow melody, the song quickly picks up, letting true punk rock seep through. The vocalist’s deep, throaty vocals play a central role, but takes no attention from the guitar work. A garage, gritty sound also shines through, reigning in the song every time it nearly gets too neat or clean.

With a catchy chorus, the band has done an impressive job with the self-recording. Melbourne’s vibrant music scene shows in the song’s energy, yet the band’s ambitions to not just rise in Melbourne, but all over the world, jeopardizes the song having a distinct Aussie sound, or generally, a unique approach. Razor Burn has a tricky path ahead, juggling on the one hand creating unique music and on the other resonating with fans everywhere in the world.

However, though more toned down energy-wise than previous releases like “Into the Void”, the single is still full of energy, even seeming partially designed for live performance as well. Over all, the single nicely sets the stage for coming successes and sets a high bar for their coming album.
