Picture this: let’s transport ourselves back two decades, a time when the groove, vocals, and rhythm were simply AMAZING! Yes! That’s the vibe I get when I listen to “Bad Mind” by the Dallas-based band, Awaiting Abigail.

I was truly impressed to discover that they had only formed last year. However, as I delved into their background, it became clear that these individuals already possessed significant experience and a rich musical history. Awaiting Abigail is a reunion of three high school friends from the 90s: Heather Hammonds (Drums), James Smith (Guitar), and Laurie Barnet (Bass). While each member draws from diverse influences such as punk, classical, or jazz, they played together in a rock band called Lost Reality until 2000. Then, in mid-2024, James met Abigail Hill (Vocals) recognized that she would be a perfect addition to their new group.

Their sound is not just a nostalgic nod to the past, but a fresh and invigorating take on what modern rock can be. Each member brings a unique flair, yet they unite seamlessly to create a sound that is both familiar and daringly new. As you listen, you can feel the chemistry and camaraderie that stems from their long history together. This connection translates into music that is authentic and full of life.

The band has a knack for storytelling through their lyrics, capturing emotions and experiences that resonate deeply with listeners. Their ability to blend intricate melodies with raw power is truly something to behold. It’s evident that Awaiting Abigail is not just about making music—they’re about creating an experience that lingers with you long after the last note fades away.

Keep an eye on this band; they’re on a path to greatness, and they’re inviting all of us along for the ride. Cheers to that!
