Six Migration – Progressive Metal moniker for Portland musician David Vitello, showcases a relentless and vicious, richly themed and singular sounding body of work. Vitello simply mentions “I’m a Gen X subject” when asked where the sound comes from. No matter, as this music speaks for itself through passion, a depth of love.for the craft, and a rare technical virtuosity that more than supports the heavyweight music. David has written over 200 sounds, and it shows in his compositions. Listens may hear echoes of Opeth, Meshuggah, Behemoth, Gojira and even Deftones or Porcupine Tree at times.
David Vitello started writing and recording music in the mid 1990s. Inspired by metal, punk and the exploding grunge scene of that time. He would get home from school and express his teenage angst through recording on a 4 track Tascam. He wrote over 200 songs at that time. He played in multiple bands through high school. In college he was the vocalist and lead guitar player for a psychedelic fusion jam post grunge band. He recorded 3 original songs with producers in New York City at that time. He then completed education in audio engineering and continued to writing and recording in a number of genres including experimental, soundtracks, Avante garde and heavy rock. His dreams of “making it” in the music business died in 2002 after which he stopped writing music for 12 years, devoting is time to Vajrayana and Dzogchen. He began writing and recording again in 2019, releasing Decibel Nihil in 2022, several music for picture projects, a kid progressive metal album with his daughter Kiyoko Vitello, and his latest metal release, Six Migrations.
