Adam Nelson, like many of us, was horrified by the lack of empathy towards the situation in Gaza for the last 77 years or so, and the recent escalations in the last couple of years after the events of October 7th. His frustration with people’s inaction led him to write “Feed Gaza” A well-produced metal song created with artificial intelligence. Which can be off-putting to some people that a song about a humanitarian crisis was created by AI, but I think Nelson used it as a tool to create something for good, and I think that counts for something.
The song is as blunt as its title. Adam Nelson calls to action the millions of rich people just watching this nightmare on their phones, pass by. Which is a horrifying realization, that even with us now, for the first time seeing an atrocity of this scale take place streamed directly to our phones from the actual people experiencing it, the relentless media machine still attempts to dehumanize the helpless victims and paints them as violent terrorists who deserve it.
You might ask, “Well, why do we need to feed Gaza?”, and I’ll answer by saying that the genocide in Gaza has displaced 90 percent of its population and destroyed 70-80 percent of the farmland. An active siege prevents most outside sources from delivering food to this hell on earth. Children are dying from starvation, malnutrition, and dehydration every single day.
Adam Nelson brings to the surface this cognitive dissonance of the media lies against what we can see taking place: a holocaust scale intentional ethnic cleansing of hundreds of thousands of starving people. And expresses that despite all that, he believes in people’s ability to cut through the lies and their capacity to do the least right thing they can do: Feed Gaza.
