Virginia’s KuF has been building momentum steadily since their resurgence with singles like “I’m Not Dead” and “Cosmic Cowboy,” and “Final Descent” dropped on February 27th as the latest cut from their debut EP Chapter 1. The single already racked up over 90 international radio spins before it even came out, which tells you the rock community has been paying attention. The band’s thing is big, cinematic hard rock driven by thunderous riffs and commanding female vocals, and this one leans into that fully.

This is a rock anthem of epic proportions, complete with a serene intro of clean guitars and the beautiful soaring female vocals, and then it slowly builds up to the powerful guitar riffs that tell the story of this descent as much as the vocals. This song continues the trend that KuF has set with the grand scale of their anthems. Though I would personally say it’s not just the same song again as previous anthems – each one carries its own story and narrative to fulfillment, so the variance comes from the subject matter and the musical execution.

“Final Descent” is a slow burn, and a deliberate one. It’s the kind of track that asks you to sit with it rather than grab you by the collar, and by the time the full weight of those riffs lands, you understand why. For a debut EP, Chapter 1 is making a strong case that KuF know exactly what kind of band they are.
