Swedish rock duo Talk In Vain have just released their debut single titled “Her Case” and it is a very catchy and melodic rock song that really caught my attention. The duo is made up of Jessica Lindman and producer Magnus Hellman.
The song begins with a clean acoustic guitar playing a chord progression, and a beautiful lead melody played by an electric guitar shortly follows. The impeccable level of production allows us to hear different guitar playing styles and different levels of overdrive and distortion fit with one another. The bass and drums are also unmistakably present in the song, and they adequately get heavier as the guitar gets more overdrive…making the track sound like a hard rock/heavy metal number from the 70s and 80s, except that with its modern flare and clean production it still feels beautiful and fresh to more modern listeners. The change from acoustic/clean guitars to electric ones is the most special element for me.
Vocalist Jessica Lindman starts out with the acoustic guitar and sings with more power in the heavy parts as well, making me wonder if the band/duo will keep these progressive tendencies in future releases. It’s great to see a band that can toy around with a song’s dynamics and pace that much, and for them to have a vocalist as perfect as Jessica is a guarantee that Talk In Vain is bound to succeed and make it big. I specifically loved the way Jessica’s voice shimmers as she get higher and uses more of her vibrato, she has a crystal clear tone and enunciates every word so it’s clear what she’s saying and it also gets the emotions across so impeccably. She sounds exceptional on the chorus.
In conclusion, this song is an instant hit and as a debut single, sets the bar so high for what we should expect from Talk In Vain and from other bands who are just starting out, if you ask me. Be sure to check out the band’s socials and their single on all major streaming platforms.
