US-based rockers Luminatrix have just released their fifth studio album named Hide and Seek, and it is a very unique Hard Rock/Alt Rock experience. The title track on that album caught my attention for its catchy lyrics, haunting vocal harmonies, and killer rock n roll atmosphere, which I’ll be getting into a lot of details about.

First of all, Hide and Seek is a six minute track, leaving nothing to the imagination and giving the listeners’ everything these femme fatale rockers can provide. The song begins with a killer guitar riff, and an underlying bass line which at first I perceived as being distant from the guitar line. The moment the verse kicks in, you feel the guitar and bass coming together to play a variation of each respective instrument’s melody and they end up in a mind-blowing unison as the vocals kick in. It was one of those show-stopping moments for me and it felt like it would sound great at live shows.

As the verse goes on, I noticed the backing vocals acting as an instrument of their own. These backing vocal lines beautifully soar on top of the guitar bass and drums, which have a very natural and live-ish recording style, and make you wonder how they caught such a perfect atmosphere and got the two leading ladies’ voices to shine in the mix.

Last but not least, U have to highlight how the bridge section of the song brings out all the great elements that make the song what it is. Where one lady repeats the lyrics with a ferocious sound, the other responds with howling screams that reciprocate the energy and bring the song to one final chorus before it closes. A beautiful ending to a powerful and rich tune.

In conclusion, these two ladies have made a haunting song with balanced guitars, a present bass guitar, powerful drum lines, and a chorus that’s hauntingly memorable. The atmosphere is a mix of 2000s Alternative rock, hard rock, and a hint of the 70s vibe thanks to the raw recording. I highly recommend this song if you’re looking for a band that can capture that mix of both modern sound and nostalgic production/sound.
