There is an element of going back in time to Shaky’s latest hairy, pop punk anthem “In a Heartbeat”. Driven by Shaky’s tender melodies and fiery musical character, this is a little anthemic banger that is very welcome.

Based in Philadelphia and Baltimore, Shaky, and his label Shaky Records, are back with Kinda Wild II, the successor to Shaky’s 2025 debut Kinda Wild, and we’re tackling the lead single, titled ‘In a Heartbeat’, tonight. As stated by the man himself, ‘In a Heartbeat’ is a nostalgic sound. Written about Shaky’s 20s which he spent in Philly running the Rathaus, a famous concert venue in the city.

To handle this sweet memory, Shaky employs the simple aid of overdriven guitars, always to the rescue. ‘In a Heartbeat’ has an unquestionably soft and melodic core, wonderfully contrasted by the hairy nature of the guitar tones, while the gently rebellious words are cheeky and energizing. A biographical write-up, ‘In a Heartbeat’ is undeniably a personal song to Shaky, and his superb vocal delivery, just vulnerable and understated enough to bring the energy down to the optimum level, is beautifully executed. The straightforward rhythm section is not devoid of intricacies that are mirrored by the slinky, overdriven lead guitar melodies that run all through the song, and the rich, fulfilling mix in the culmination of all the elements into one particularly delightful treat of pop, rock, and punk.

‘In a Heartbeat’ got us very excited for what Kinda Wild II has in store!
