There’s a centenary worth celebrating here. The little black dress turned 100 this year – Coco Chanel introduced what she called “Chanel’s Ford” in 1926, and the design became one of the most enduring icons in fashion history. Cannock rock trio Sig and the Fire Pilots have taken that anniversary as their launching pad, releasing “Little Black Dress” in May 2026 as a straight-up tribute to the garment and the woman who invented it. It’s a fun conceptual hook for a rock song, and the band is clearly having a good time with it.

Musically, the band delivers all that you expect – a huge sounding groove of their signature funk rock sound with fiery guitar chords and the rhythm section absolutely on lock. The chemistry is incredible with how the drums have a call and response with the bass and rhythm guitars. The rhythm section is a huge part of why the band’s sound is so exceptional, but don’t fret because Sig’s vocals take it to a whole new level – it fills in the space left by the rhythm section with enough grit to keep the tension going. There is also a tasteful guitar solo surprise towards the climax of the song for guitar lovers out there. The song is the complete package.
Sig and the Fire Pilots have been active since 2021 and have built a reputation as a dependable live act – the kind that converts the unconverted. “Little Black Dress” is a tight, unpretentious rock song that knows exactly what it wants to be and delivers it cleanly. Not every track needs to reinvent the wheel, and this one doesn’t try to. It just drives.
