The Egyptian progressive metal band Anemoya has unveiled their debut single, “Pathological Liar.” This track narrates the tale of a charming individual who fabricates stories to preserve their ego and flawless image. It explores how this deceiver mirrors a part of ourselves, with all their untruths and the façade they maintain to engage with the world.
The song captivated me right from the first riff, accompanied by the harmonic lead guitars. This kind of introduction evokes memories of legendary artists who seamlessly blend progressive music with genres like heavy and gothic. The five-member band truly impresses me with their cohesion and overall performance. Akram Soliman’s vocals perfectly embody the spirit of the track, maintaining its essence without losing its energy. Did I mention he crafted such a psychologically rich lyrical theme? What a remarkable talent!
When it comes to the guitars, I believe that in rock and metal, the rhythm and lead sections must work in perfect synergy to achieve the best results. This harmony is evident in the playing of Kareem W. El Sharabasy (Guitars, Synth) and Khaled El Nahas (Guitars). Their incredible guitar riffs had me headbanging, especially leading up to an iconic guitar solo! I also have to highlight Moustafa Nazir (Bass) and Yassin Bahgat (Drums), as these musicians skillfully maintained the entire structure of the song in pristine form.
“Our debut single, Pathological Liar is a haunting exploration of duality—a clash between the facades we wear and the realities we suppress.” – Anemoya
