“Pleasure and pain” is a very special song that appears as the third track on The Kid Cash‘s debut album “Words Unspoken”. The track is not just an S&M fantasy, but a deep emotional trip down the depths of (physically and psychologically) harmful relationships and how they affect us.

The track revolves around some clean guitar strumming and then Cash’s melodic and airy vocals which join after. The softness with which he sings the verses is a vast contradiction from the unhinged and chaotic relationship being discussed. The guitar tone is very bluesy and the bassline and electronic beat will both force you to sway along by the end of every bar that plays.

The vocals emit a sense of darkness due to Cash’s minor nasality and the way he closes vowels too soon to pronounce consonants with emphasis as if he is speaking rather than singing. I really love his soft vulnerable demeanor and how his technique relies on pure emotion.

The lyrical themes of the track reminded me of the legendary single by Eminem and Rihanna “Love The Way You Lie” and how iconic it was back in the day. The first verse explores the notion that repressed inner rage and unhinged desire can lead to a relationship where one partner controls and the other submits.

The overall vibe is not so distant from modern RnB, with undertones of both Rock and Hip-Hop here and there -an aesthetic that will draw a lot of comparison to G-Eazy and NF.

To say that the song captures the exact feelings it’s trying to describe with its lyrics would be an understatement. This is a haunting track that can give a name to indescribable rage and repressed emotions all while sounding fresh and appealing to a wide range of listeners and music fans. I recommend this track to anyone who’s ever been in a toxic relationship and feels like nobody relates to them.
