Lately, I discovered the Australian rockers ReeToxA and I was really amazed by such authentic rock vibes. “Bobbie” and “You” were the tracks that I heard earlier this week, and they are from the band’s debut LP, Pines Salad. Let’s find out more below.

The 14-track album presents an extraordinary collection of rock music that I believe is truly one of a kind. Typically, I feel a bit anxious when encountering albums with more than ten tracks, though I’m not entirely sure why. Perhaps it’s because we live in such a fast-paced digital age! That could be the reason. However, while exploring ReeToxA’s Pines Salad, I am genuinely impressed by the music’s structure, which transitions seamlessly and is, in my opinion, exceptionally well-crafted.

ReeToxA has its origins in the vibrant era of the ‘90s, thanks to the creative genius of Jason McKee. When you listen to their music, you can sense the influence of iconic bands from that time, such as Pixies, Pearl Jam, and Nirvana. However, there’s also a modern touch that integrates seamlessly with the classic sounds. Unlike many newcomers who attempt to blend old and new elements but often miss the mark, ReeToxA achieves a remarkable harmony.

From the opening chords, Pines Salad promises a journey through McKee’s life and musical evolution, offering both introspective ballads and anthems that demand to be blasted through your speakers. Each song is a chapter, brimming with authenticity and a touch of McKee’s signature wit.

Bobbie” sets the stage with its haunting melodies and poignant lyrics, while tracks like “Amber” and “You” delve into more personal narratives, showcasing McKee’s knack for storytelling. The album’s production, helmed by Simon Moro, ensures that every note is crisp and impactful, allowing the raw emotion of the lyrics to shine through.

What sets ReeToxA apart is the seamless fusion of influences. McKee doesn’t just pay homage to the greats; he builds upon their legacy, creating something uniquely his own. Whether you’re a fan of classic rock or the latest indie hits, Pines Salad offers a little something for everyone, proving that timeless music knows no bounds.

“After 30 years of songwriting, I am finally able to share my music with the world,” McKee states, and it’s evident that this debut has not been hurried. As a fellow musician, I can truly relate to this sentiment. I, too, have been working on music that has remained unfinished for twenty years. Furthermore, I want to emphasize the remarkable harmony and cohesion among the band members, which I believe sets this record apart from any other rock releases I’ve encountered recently. Kit Riley (Michael Bublé, Savage Garden) on bass, James Ryan (King Canyon) on guitar, and Peter Marin (Jet) on drums are, in my opinion, more than just session musicians; they are true masters of their craft, complemented by McKee’s exceptional talent in singing and songwriting. “Collaborating with some of Australia’s finest musicians was a privilege and yielded the best results for my songs,” he adds.

As the final notes fade, listeners are left not only with a deeper understanding of McKee’s journey but also with a newfound appreciation for the power of music to transcend time and trends. So, prepare your playlists and ears for a deliciously eclectic mix that’s sure to leave a lasting impression.
