WATFORD, ENGLAND — Some songs exist to get you on the dancefloor. Some exist to break your heart open and put it back together slightly differently. Ricky’s Rebel Rabble’s single “Molly” is emphatically the latter — a deeply personal, T.Rex-influenced rock tribute written by lead guitarist and songwriter Ricky Armstrong for his aunt Molly, who passed away suddenly after years of quietly holding his world together.

When Ricky lost his parents, it was Molly who stepped in — caring for both him and his disabled son with the kind of steady, unannounced love that only reveals its full weight when it is suddenly gone. “Molly” is the song he wrote to honour her. Every penny raised from the single has been donated to Help Musicians and Scope — charities that reflect the band’s deep, genuine commitment to causes close to their hearts.

“You’ll go great — great musicians go far.” That’s what a very famous producer said when he heard them. They took it to heart.

“Beyond its catchy rock-pop arrangement, the song preserves the memory of someone whose kindness helped others through hardship.” – Cherine Abulwafa of Rock Era Magazine.

“Molly” is a catchy, heartfelt composition that wraps its emotional weight in an infectious rock arrangement rooted in the vintage sensibilities of T.Rex — the glam-rock icons whose ability to make grief and longing feel danceable remains one of rock and roll’s enduring gifts. Ricky’s Rebel Rabble carry that same spirit: music that is immediately accessible on the surface and quietly devastating underneath.

Recorded in Watford in 2019 under the guidance of producer Nick Andrew — whose extensive experience with acclaimed artists shaped every aspect of the recording process — the track achieves a polished, warm production that the band remains proud of. Nick Andrew also plays bass on the recording, with Rich Spoons as co-producer, Gary Sanford on drums, and Billy Henagan delivering lead vocals. It is the kind of production that sounds effortless and takes everything to achieve.

Ricky’s Rebel Rabble are not a band that makes music for music’s sake alone. They are a band that makes music for people — starting with the people they have loved and lost, and extending outward to the broader community of people who need support.

The band’s commitment to Help Musicians and Scope is not a campaign add-on. It is the reason the music exists in the way it does — honest, direct, and unconcerned with anything except saying something true and giving something back. Alice Randall — co-writer, promoter, and someone with disabilities herself — is, as Ricky puts it simply, someone they cannot do this without. Her contribution to both the creative and promotional life of the band is invaluable, and her involvement in future releases including the upcoming “Going Home in the Rain” continues that essential partnership.

Looking ahead, “Going Home in the Rain” — co-written by Ricky and Alice Randall — marks the next chapter in the band’s ongoing commitment to emotionally resonant, purposeful songwriting.

“Just thanking Alice Randall, who has disabilities and has been fantastic for us. We can’t do this without her.” — Ricky Armstrong
