Rock and Roll Musician Sanjay Michael returns with a raw, high spirited new EP entitled “Wall Street Blues”, following up 2023’s critically acclaimed full-length “Rocking Into Midnight”. In listening to Sanjay’s work, listeners can expect to hear a devoted rock music enthusiast honoring his heroes and having the time of his life while doing so. “Wall Street Blues” gives nods to AC/DC, Thin Lizzy, BB King and the Rolling Stones with it’s attitude-laced vocals and no-nonsense blues rock riffage. The pure enthusiasm and love for the craft and contagious.
The result is a stripped-down, highly focused 3-track EP forged in the studio sessions. With music genres fragmenting and the lack of popular monoculture, Wall Street Blues cuts through and brings Sanjay’s mission of rock for the masses back on track.
“This EP is a showcase of transition. Wall Street Blues was originally recorded for my Rocking into Midnight album but it didn’t seem to belong alongside those 10 songs. Releasing it as a single was the plan but then the idea for an EP hit me – other songs could work with it.
Meanwhile, practicing and jamming with my band made me simplify my riffs and lyrics, and out of those sessions Baby Baby was born. I love it for both its simplicity and power. Who’ll Be My Friend is another exercise in reduction, going back to the days of late-night blues songs in downtown bars about to close for the night.
I still believe in the power of electric guitars – there’s no other sound like it and I miss proper mainstream rock songs. But despite the riffs or groove, the lyrics should reflect mass-market subjects and they don’t. The pop stars sing about love and empowerment; the rappers talk about sex and society… Rock music is unfortunately still on the fringes, dealing with either abstract themes or non-radio friendly issues like drugs and depression.
So hopefully this EP will bring the focus back to the basics of everyday humanity. Songs about love and money are a good place to start!”
