Somebody to Blame is the comeback single by US rockers The Grey Agents after years and years of playing in other projects and other bands, and I can’t be more glad to see this beautiful comeback happen because of this masterful song it gave us.

The song begins with a beautiful chord progression and a nice organ that sets the tone for what’s coming. The verses have a very classic rock kind of drumline, and the rhythm is reminiscent of some other subgenres like Country Rock/Southern Rock, but the vocals were the sweetest element and they resonate with me the most.

Speaking of the vocals, they are powerful, it’s clear to make out the words, and most importantly, the lead vocalist feels like he’s telling a story with the way he enunciates and shows emotion in all his words. The lead vocal lines may be accompanied by some backing lines and harmonies from the other band members, but they all take a “less is more” kind of approach, meaning that the voice is not drowned in effects or processing and we hear a strong and crystal clear single layer of vocals, and that’s a production choice I loved.

As far as the lyrics go, the song is criticizing how everyone is always complaining and shifting the blame to anything or anyone else but themselves, pretty simple yet pretty deep. All in all, this is a killer song that will easily find its way to your playlist and make you discover the other songs and the members’ other projects.
