Spaceman is a very special song from the latest Andrew Moore and Hooch album entitled “Artists of The Moon”. The song is a token of appreciation to Andrew’s son. The song is full of soulful, bluesy, and Classic Rock moments and I had to give it multiple listens to appreciate all of its details.
First of all, the song starts out with a special kind of keyboard/piano that plays with horns and electronic synth effects that made me visualise a whole Jazz/Blues performance being in held way up far in space. The atmosphere and instrument choice match the lyrical theme impeccably.
But it doesn’t stop there, the way the soulful vocals start every line subtly then pull up towards some sweeter higher notes, a technique referred to as glissando, belw me away. It’s not the only advanced vocal technique or quirk in the track, this song is actually full of them, but the special effects on the lead vocals make these longer lines and higher pitches shine so much more. Another beautiful aspect for example is the raspy nature of the vocals, which is so well-performed and never takes away from the melodic nature of the voice, but rather enriches it.
The soaring guitars in their bluesy manner, with the drum beats and basslines starting and stopping at very specific intervals is set to put you in a state of soulful bliss, with a heavy drizzle of Classic Rock on top of it. And i just can’t simply end this review without talking about the beautiful heartfelt lyrics in which Andrew Moore shows love, appreciation, and tells us how proud he is of his son Stetson. This is a 10/10 song for me, like the 10/10 album it’s featured on, and I think what made me love it the most is how easy it was to connect with it and relate to it.
