Whenever the stars are aligned, unique voices meet excellent music, played by brilliant musicians and everything is recorded and captured at an iconic location…you can’t help but feel every second, every emotion, reach into not just the music, but in the moment the music got captured…you almost feel like you can smell and touch the world, trapped in that moment and be physically in it…that’s what I went through when listening to Sano Hill’s second single “Starting Over”.
Sano hails from Galway, Ireland, he is an accomplished singer and songwriter.
He has performed for audiences both in Ireland and the US, already has music out in several compilation albums that includes some of the acclaimed international artist including Josh Ritter, Ron Sexsmith, Lloyd Cole, Damien Rice, Mundy and The Frames
Sano recorded his second single in Dublin’s legendary Windmill Lane Studios with award-winning producer Larry Hogan and a full accompaniment band…
…as I was saying…the stars were aligned…
“Starting Over” is a song about reconciliation, hopefulness, and something I personally felt…it’s about how to be alive.
Seems like a fundamental skill or capability that we all come into life with, but I believe the contrary…
Not everyone knows how to really live, or what’s life about…but we can all agree that a happy and helpful life might be how to live it…and this is exactly what I got from Sano’s “Starting Over”.
It might have another meaning from what I got…but, that’s one of the beautiful faces of art, we can all experience the same piece, but react differently.
…so why don’t we then give “Starting Over” a listen?
The song starts out with a simple but capturing acoustic guitar riff…only for a couple of seconds…
…only to have the bass and drums kick in with a drum fill…
The vocals come in, telling a story…it lifts the song right into a simple pre-chorus…
…tambourines come in, taking the song to more heights, through the chorus…
Backing vocals, feeling like a choir takes the song to its highest of highs…
Sano’s vocals are very soothing…storytelling…and guaranteed to soothe whatever life has thrown at you…
…of course…it has a guitar solo…I told you before…the stars are aligned…and how could that alignment be complete without the spice that an electric guitar solo would add to the mix?
…I don’t want to forget the awesome accompaniment band that played with Sano…they are absolutely brilliant…the brass is doing a lot of awesome work in the song and definitely adds a lot of emotional layers…
The chorus takes over the song till it ends…on a high note.
Sano’s “Starting Over” is an absolutely uplifting experience that will keep resonating long after its 5 minutes of playtime is over.
Sano, we wish you all the best in the world, you absolutely deserve it…and a little more.
Cheers!
