This is the image that Henry Lemoin paints with the intro to his debut single, “The Great Awaits”
The song dropped on March 25th of this year, and marks the beginning of a very special journey for Henry Lemoin.
Henry hails from Oslo, Norway. The land of the progressive metal.
He also plays in the band “Tides of Chaos”.
Not only that, but while recording his debut single “The Great Awaits” he had multiple hats to wear, he recorded the guitars, bass, keyboards as well as mixing and mastering the track.
When you give it a listen, you will find that there is still the matter of drums and the very uniquely used saxophone! Henry got two session musicians to join his journey, they are Naman Sachdev on drums and Manuel Trabucco on saxophone.
Apparently, “The Great Awaits” started out as an ambient guitar piece…but since then it has evolved multiple times and into different directions, till it reached its ultimate form, the one that we will be experiencing today.
So, without any further ado, let’s jump into this experience of a song and see how Henry Lemoin designed this world that we’re gonna be living in for the next 7 minutes!
As I started to review, the song starts out by painting a backdrop for what’s to come…
The song fills your soul with lush soundscapes, like oceans and mountains, huge sounding synths build the foundation of the intro.
From there, the drums and guitars jump in the mix…
…again, building up a little so it can take us to a more emotion filled section of the song…
…then the melodies start flowing in…
Anthemic lead guitars start playing harmonies…pure bliss.
Huge sounds…
Then we get into the main melodic riff…we’ll get back to this point later.
…around the 1 minute mark, the guitar starts soaring melodically, a pure and awesome lead guitar tone is flying high.
Things start to mellow out…gets into more of an ambient feel…
The saxophone starts playing an ambient solo…everything clashes in the most elegant way, like nature.
The track gets back to its main melodic riff…and this marks the soul and essence of the track.
Melodically and rhythmically, the main riff is catchy and powerful….and also it transitions very smoothly into the ambient parts of the track.
Usually, the ambient parts have the saxophone lead the way with its ambient solos…
…and as an ear candy, the saxophone plays different ambient solos in the left ear than the right ear…it feels like you’re in space, being guided by a faint light, taking you across the empty vastness of space…from planet to planet.
Each time you go to a planet, you get an awesome melodic guitar riff or a solo…
Then you leave the planet, into the ambient space…the saxophone guides you…
That happens across the track, each time you end up with the main melodic riff.
Everything is top notch, the recording, mixing, sound choices, riffs, drum beats and fill, saxophone ambient solos…everything works together.
