Despite not being a football enthusiast and only playing FIFA on PS with friends, I cannot overlook the incredible talent displayed by many female players. Alternative Influence has returned with a punk anthem that honours the growing prominence of women’s football, perfectly timed with the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 taking place in Switzerland this July.
“Time 4 Her to Shine” exudes a dynamic rock energy. I found the raw, powerful vocals to be particularly captivating, and the musicianship is impressively tight. In fact, I would argue that it features the best punk rock song structure I’ve encountered in 2025 so far. The guitars are strikingly sharp and catchy, making it easy for you to find yourself subconsciously headbanging along.
As I mentioned before, I’m not a die-hard football enthusiast. However, I firmly believe in the importance of balance. Sponsors and media should equally focus on women’s football and other sports. It genuinely frustrates me to see that men’s football is the most celebrated, recognised, and showcased sport.
Although Lee Devenport, the frontman of Alternative Influence, emphasised that his focus is on supporting his national women’s team, I believe this support should extend to women’s football globally as well as other sports. “I’ve been following the women’s game since 2016,” says frontman Lee Devenport, “and have loved watching it grow. The national team’s success has inspired more domestic clubs, and now grassroots football features just as many junior girls’ teams as boys’ – it’s part of the football fabric now.”
Ultimately, Alternative Influence is more than just a band with a new release; I have faith that they will soon become one of the punk rock icons. Cheers to that!
