St. Louis indie artist Dez Rocket released “All Ways Forever” on January 14th, an upbeat Indie Rock/Indie Dance track with an underlayment of esoteric nuance. Rocket wrote and produced the track, performing all vocals, guitars, and synthesizers, with Chuck Williams on bass and Paris Parent on drums. Rocket started his music career as a touring lead singer/synth player and rhythm guitarist, releasing one record with his Los Angeles-based band Chongo Guru before going solo in 2014. He began studying spiritual alchemy in 1996 and describes music as a conduit that connects us beyond this world, the main avenue where he expresses both light and dark aspects of his being. He’s currently forming a new band with plans to play live shows and hit the road with a new lineup this year.

Musically, the song leans heavily towards dreamy anthem territory, yet has a driving drum groove that is irresistibly danceable. The synthesizers create texture without cluttering the space, and the rhythm section keeps everything locked in while leaving room for the melody to breathe. It’s heartfelt without being heavy-handed, upbeat without losing its depth.

Dez Rocket wears his heart on his sleeve here, showing vulnerability but this time with a fun and adventurous spirit. Though at times he sounds like he’s speaking in third person, his desire to “burn down the walls” around his heart describes someone attempting to break free from an old paradigm of pain and trauma to enter a new chapter of rebirth and expansion. For someone who’s been at this since releasing solo work in 2014, Dez Rocket’s found a lane where spiritual exploration and indie rock meet without one undermining the other.
