Starting off the track with a catchy guitar riff before the intricate lyrical storytelling begins, “Apartment 3513” by Panama-based artist Straw is a raw and evocative 90s rock tune that gets stuck in your head long after you hit pause.

“For 14 long, difficult years, I battled a multitude of mental health & drug issues. My music is a journey through my own private hell – warts & all,” shared Straw. “My lyrics speak frankly about the variety of dark situations & reactions to those situations. I went through some good & many really bad. I take a long look at myself through a pretty objective lens and talk about how I really felt & of course, how I dealt with things along the way.”

“Attacked by my panic, drives me up the wall. It’s all as clear as mud, need to press pause, I wanna rock n roll but I’m comatose,” sings Straw about his hardships. He mentioned that the only thing that appeared to be easing his pain was music during his addiction period.

Straw studied at Berklee, and the Musicians Institute in Hollywood, then he returned to Panama and met with a Nashville-based songwriter who worked with him on the music. You can tell that Straw is being super honest in his lyrics, and the way he sings on “Apartment 3513” surely explores the gloomy anxiety and depression he was battling.
