Good Time Locomotive’s latest single has been deemed so in tune with the band’s vibes so as to carry the band’s name itself. G.T.L is a gorgeous sounding, cheerful, and mature piece of pop rock that urges good times upon the listeners in the least cheesy way possible, and with the most musicianship available.
Good Time Locomotive are a London-based quintet, specialized in upbeat and organic-sounding new wave pop rock. The kind of music Coldplay would be making if they relinquish their pristine, electronic edge. The band’s sound on ‘G.T.L’ is excellent. Tight, focused, engaging, and wholly entertaining. Listening to the plethora of instrumental lines play exceedingly well off one another, hand in hand with the fantastic vocals, memorable melodies, and capable vocal harmonies, it is all a gently cathartic affair that is sublimely mixed.
The song is a bit larger-than-life opera, another bit a humdrum, harmless piece of down-to-earth English pop. But the band is not having an identity crisis, quite the opposite. The song’s flow is easy to follow and to vibe with, while being intricate and varied enough to sound dramatic and with a fair amount of cinematic flair. Just listen to the pair of lead guitar short solos near the end, or the horn-impersonating line that the song kicks off with, and you’ll understand the listen of nuance Good Time Locomotive is operating at.
‘G.T.L’ is a thoroughly well-made and big-hearted piece of pop rock that’s enjoyable and entertaining. Musical too, Good Time Locomotive are pulling off some of their tightest chops on this lovely new single.
