A crispy, start-stop groove is defining Tidal Water’s debut single, a fiery, charismatic, and flamboyant showcase of the group’s affinity towards classic rock and blues. ‘Corrupted’ is a bold and immersive foray into experimental colors of rock that ends up as an entertaining, bizarre, rock-solid tune.
Tidal Water is a fresh-faced group hailing from the Norwegian capital Oslo. Spearheaded by passionate singer, songwriter, and producer Martin Hovden, Tidal Water are here with debut single ‘Corrupted’, a taster of the group’s upcoming full-length album Polarity. With Hovden’s bold societal and personal commentaries, ‘Corrupted’ is as lyrically engaging as it is musically. With a vast number of collaborators on ‘Corrupted’, and on Polarity at large, Tidal Water is more of a collective than a band.
‘Corrupted’ is defined, as previously stated, by a solid and heavy groove that is then highlighted by Hovden’s angsty megaphone yells. The aggressiveness of the drums and vocals are then further enunciated with tasteful piano lines and vocal layering that creates a dense texture to the song’s rather simplistic arrangement, with the overdriven rhythm guitar, drums, sparse piano lines, and vocal overdubs being most of what populates the song.
‘Corrupted’ is punchy, brash, and heavy-handed. A confident display of a confident artist and a group of equally tempered players, all joining in on the cheeky, societally-aware, angst.
