No, this is not one more cover of the Mazzy Star classic, and to be honest there was a slight pang of disappointment when I first found out. But then I heard the song and all of this disappointment was swept away, leaving in place an electrified me unable to get enough of this song’s infectious melodies and addictive grooves.
Jamie Alimorad is a singer and songwriter based in Los Angeles, California, but originally from all the way across the North American continent, from Harrison, New York. ‘Fade into You’ was dreamt up by Alimorad and his collaborator and producer Jordan Sherman. Together, and in a six-hour session, the duo birthed the pristine pop goodness that we can all hear here.
First came to life while water mitigation workers were invading Alimorad’s house, forcing him to retreat to his studio, finding the forgotten lyrics, and in a moment of creative lucidity, crafting some immediately sweet and catchy pop melodies around them. The song also marks a return to the more guitar-led early work for Alimorad, while the song’s electronic qualities make it a fantastic piece of modern, driving pop, and his melodies are the cherry on top, making the song immediately hook-heavy and radio-ready.
A beautiful piece of lighthearted and well-crafted pop music, Jamie Alimorad’s ‘Fade into You’ is a dazzling release that opened my eye to one of indie pop’s best hidden gems.
