Egyptian progressive rock band FAJR arrives with its debut single, “فوق” (Fou2) – The Awakening, on 11 November 2026. Sung in Egyptian Arabic, it is a wake-up call to anyone who has sunk so deep into a dark place that they stopped trying to climb out.

Fou2 means “wake up” in Egyptian Arabic, and the song does exactly that. It captures the moment of realisation, when you see where you are and decide to rise.

FAJR was born from a simple need: the music its members were looking for didn’t exist in their language.

“Fou2” is the first chapter of the story FAJR tells: from a dark place, to realisation, to awakening, and finally the dawn. The music follows the same arc. It opens with a slow, atmospheric intro, then breaks into heavy riffs and a soaring guitar solo, and lands on a chorus built to lift you up and out.

It is heavy, atmospheric, and cinematic, with lyrics that say what people carry inside but rarely find the words for.

FAJR writes music that is heavy without being harsh and progressive without being distant, made for longtime rock and metal fans and first-time listeners alike. Its sound sits between progressive rock, alternative metal, and Arabic rock.

Every FAJR song follows a single journey, from darkness to realisation to awakening. The name says it all. Fajr is the Arabic word for dawn: the first light that breaks the night before the sun rises. FAJR is where darkness meets the dawn.
